Hi friends,
In forty years of bollywood career, Guru has virtually sung with every singer who appeared on the scene during that period....104 male singers and 83 female singers to be precise (this includes songs with multiple singers on a song as well as non-singers lending their voice for some dialogues within the song...like Shtarughan Sinha having some dialogues in Jwalamukhi song Paan Bidi Cigarette Tambakoo Na Sharaab, Humko To Nasha Hai Mohabbat Ka Janab)....

Various database on these Jodies created along the way of discussions on this thread has been indexed as under:

INDEX OF DATABASE CREATED ALONG THE WAY

Description_____________________________________________Post No.
1. List of Duets with Rafi-------------------------------------------------------019
2. List of Duets with Pankaj Udhas--------------------------------------------009
3. List of Duets with Danny Dengzopa----------------------------------------013
4. List of Male co-singers of Guru---------------------------------------------022
5. List of Female co-singers of Guru------------------------------------------023
6. List of Duets with Bhupendra-----------------------------------------------034
7. List of Duets with Manna Dey----------------------------------------------035
8. List of Duets with Shamshad Begam--------------------------------------036
9. List of Duets with Geeta Dutt----------------------------------------------044
10. List of Duets with Mahendra Kapoor--------------------------------------058
11. List of Duets with Mukesh------------------------------------------------073
12. List of Songs by Guru picturised on Vijay Arora--------------------------126
13. List of Songs by Guru composed by OP Nayyar--------------------------137
14. List of Songs by Guru and Amit Kumar-----------------------------------145
15. List of Songs by Guru under RD Burman's music-------------------------177

Here, i intend putting up some of the chosen few songs with these singers (to the extent that i have the songs)...of course some of them might be the ones which i got from this very forum courtesy our fellow-members....

i start with Bhupendra, who, while, is not as versatile as Guru, but i do like the heaviness and depth of his voice...

(i) Achchhi Achchhi Pyari Pyari
Film: Trimurty 1974

Singers: KK, Bhupinder, Nitin Mukesh
Duration: 03:26@128

(ii) Duki Pe Duki Ho
Film: Satte Pe Satta 1981

Singers: KK, Asha, Bhupinder, RD
Duration: 04:06@128

(iii) He Mujhe Dil De
Film: Mr. Romeo 1973

Singers: KK, Asha, Bhupinder, RD
Duration: 05:54@128

Incidentally MD for all these is RD....he definitely liked Bhupinder a lot....may be because Guru's default pitch and Bhupinder's pitch were very close...as were Manna Dey's and Yesudas's....but then Guru was Guru...he could mould his voice, its pitch and throw depending upon the situation in the movie and the mannerism the actor...many are greats but then only a few are genious..

Thanks for good words Nimii...

lol....well, the concept of Jodi here too, in general, is in the context of two singers only....but then in certain cases, like Bhupinder, who has sung only three songs with Guru in true Jodi, though there ten other songs he has sung with Guru in a group... , it may be difficult to restrict the definition of Jodi to two...hence Jodi here sometimes (and only sometimes) could have an expanded connotation to mean two or more singers...

RKI, i shall definitely try to post the list of singers here....i will have to compile it in Word or Excel...but shall definitely put hat up for you...this data is by the way from VN's book on Guru....hey i must mention that only two days back i got it in gift (a belated birthday gift) from my wife...who diligently found the contact no. of VN from the net and contacted him and got the book for me...

Talking about Jodis and different co-singers, here is odd one out. KK with Pankaj U.
I doubt they have many numbers together.

Pankaj's voice was used for Mithun, I wonder what the reason was .. for that decision:huh:

Ganga Jamuna Saraswati - Ek Ek Ho Jaye 3:44 Long
Kishore Kumar & Pankaj Udhas
1988
Music: Anu Malik
Lyrics: Indeevar
Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Pradha, Mithun Chakravarthy, Meenakshi Sheshadri
Director: Manmohan Desai
Producer: S.Ramanathan

Yes Marcie, KK and Pankaj Uddhas do not have any other song together...one more odd one out from my side....the only song Guru has sung with Danny...quite a smooth sailing song....

Pani Ke Badle Pee Kar Sharaab
Film: Naya Daur 1978
Duration: 03:15@128

eskayes

P.S.: GuruFan, i think this song should have been worded as Petrol Ke Badle Daalke Sharaab....Brazilians do it all the time, then not we...Jokes apart....but you have a point...i dont know if 0.5 could be reduced to 0.4 across the board, but HF admin should perhaps consider a varying graduated ratio scale...more uploads, the ratio requirement comes down...some kind of telescopic scale....so may be uploads upto 500 MB ratio could be 0.5 and then it gradually comes down for every further 500 MB of upload...if Laalu can use it for railway fares why cant we?

So, moving diametrically opposite, from odd men out to male co-singer with whom Guru has sung the most in a jodi.....yes we are talking of Mohd. Rafi....KK and Rafi, two biggest ever vocal giants of hindi film music, have sung 70 songs together with 36 of them being true blue duets...i am sure, like me, thats a treat to music lovers...

Well, a lot has been talked about what all hathkandes were adopted by Rafi camp when Guru emerged like a pheonix in late sixties resurrecting his sagging bollywood career...with all that talk notwithstanding, the fact is that it was never like 'sleeping with the enemy' when it came either to these two giants singing together or to their mutual appreciation of each other...

Guru had gone on record saying that he was a big fan of Rafi and loved to listen to his songs...Rafi, on his part, had mentioned in an interview that amongst his contemporaries, Kishore Kumar sings very well and hamesha hi sur mein gaate hain....

Now this hamesha sur mein gaate hain is no mean achievement...the fact is that Guru never missed a sur while singing in his long career of forty years...even the most accompolished of the singers have found it difficult to not miss a sur or two while singing...even his own son, Amit Kumar, is known to have gone off key in some of the songs, not to talk of the lesser mortals of current genre...it may not be very easily noticeable to many, but the purists can pick up such gaffe....in a quick progression of different notes over a syllable or two, if one note gets missed, it might not be easy to detect it...

Hats off to both of them and fortunate were those, like me, who grew up on listening to their songs as they rolled out...

Here are four relatively rarer songs of Guru-Rafi combine (I am deliberately skipping here the common ones)...

(i) Bade Maze Se Guzar Jayegi-----Chor Sipahi 1977---Laxmikant Pyarelal----06:58@128 VBR
(ii) Yoon Na Sharma Phaila De-----Parwana 1971-----Madan Mohan-----08:18@128
(iii) Badi Rangeen Mehfil Hai, Tere Chehre Se Parda---Muqaddar 1978---Rajesh Roshan---06:22@128
(iv) O Kahan Chali, Rani Chhammak Chhallo----Love in Bombay 1975----Shankar Jaikishen---06:05@128
