thanks very very much for this wonderful song.
I never heard it before and while listening Rafi-Sahab's outstanding, emotional singing surely touched me as I was literaly in tears once it hits the 1st. stanza...and am still is as I'm listening to it for the 5th.time.

Rafi:Bhakt ji, it's YM sahab whom you ought to be thanking ( I only did the u/ling - it's he who made the song request ).

Did you know that the song was a great favourite of actor Ashok Kumar too - i remember in one of his radio interviews he kept raving about the way the song was picturised in the movie. According to him it was a beautiful dramatic shot - in fitting with the sombre mood of the song.
