A delightful duet with Asha ji. Those top notes, they’ve actually come alive – a nice change from her usual chirpy self.

“Dilruba Sun” ( with Asha ji )

“Sacche Ishq Mein Na Haar Hai” – ( Cold comfort that! )

Movie – Mastani
Music – B.N. Bali

Bitrate – 128 kbps
Duration – 03:12
Format – MP3

Thank you for the song

You're welcome! Thanks for taking time out to post Myth sahab.

Here's another rare and beautiful composition.

"Ansoo Na Baha Kar Yaad"

Movie - Guru Ghantal
Music - Lacchiram

Duration - 03:29
Bitrate - 128 kbps
Format - Mp3

Sajdah Ji,

Excellent upload this. Remember having heard it very little. When you see "Lachhiram", you remember the Film, Main Suhagan Hoon and those excellent Rafi songs, "Tu Shokh kali Main Mast Pawan" and "Sab Jawan Sab haseen". So, with that hope, I d/led this song and was richly rewarded!

Incidentally, your u/l in post no. 1169 (page 78), from Film: Rahannuma is also very good!

Your uploads are always a little high-funda and require leisurely study, which opportunity you refuse to give!

Thanks,

Venkat

Venkat ji, that's so not true! I am more than a little dismayed that you should think this.

Rafi sahab i know wouldn't have wanted his songs to be inaccessible - the true test of any artiste is how devoted the masses are to him. The way he sings, it isn't for a faceless audience - it seems as if he is singing directly to each one of us. He had that special ability about him.

I hope i am not in a minority here when i say that all of the songs that Rafi sahab has ever sung has class written over it, despite being meant for all.

Sajdah

P.S. - I am glad you liked the two songs. There's a chance that you might like the ones i plan to u/l in a day or two, God Willing.

Respected Sajdah Ji,

By "High-funda", all that I meant was "songs either not known to me or songs that I am unable to recognize before listening to them". I have no hesitation in acknowledging your superior knowledge/possession of Rafi songs, especially in terms of the numbers.

Incidentally, you had earlier put in place a recommendatory system. Wish you had continued it!

Venkat

PS. After all, I am merely one of the blind men (as in the 'Elephant and Six Blind men" story) trying for ever to explore and understand Rafi Saab!

Thanks for clarifying that Venkat ji. I believe you are right – every statement is susceptible to interpretation, particularly if they are in relation to an extraordinary personality like Rafi sahab.

You do me great injustice when you say that i have an advantage over you with regard to Rafi sahab’s music. I am just a learner like you, and i like to be reminded of that every day.

I was wondering when someone would notice that - The Truth is i left off writing about the songs, when i began to feel that the 'opinionated' me was taking over the show.

But it’s there, and raring to go. Today’s posts will convince you of that.

Sajdah

Sajdah
We (almost) die for your writings and commentaries (at least I do).
PLZ do whenever you can.
Thanks in advance.
Sanjay

Sanjay, now you are being too kind and generous - i promise to do the best i can.

Sajdah Ji,

D/led this lovely song and listened to it on your advice in Rare Diamonds thread. What a beauty! Vaguely remember having heard it earlier, though! During early and mid-fifties, as you were saying, even Asha was made to fall in line with the conventional female's voice and type of singing of those days!

Now the question is as to how many such songs I may be missing. And hence the request to continue commentaries and recommendations!

Next, it appears that this 1955 film (Mastani) is having a few other Rafi duets/solos. On the strength of this Dilruba song, it is worthwhile trying out all those too! Do you have them?

Venkat

Venkat ji, the answer to this is a mysterious 'yes and no'.

Of course i would be only too happy to continue with the "commentaries" as you so eloquently put it.

Right now i am busily engaged in a dialogue with myself over walking the tightrope.
It can be done, once i figure out the biomechanics of it - that's what i keep telling myself! ph34r.gif

Composers are a strange breed. For instance they have whims, and singers have a duty to cater to them.
Not doing so could mean losing out on a plum singing assignment. Doing so can actually fetch you that coveted recording deal. It’s a sordid world out there.

There wouldn’t be a true-blue Rafi fan in the world who isn’t quite familiar with the charming Lord Krishna bhajans set to tune by the music maestro Khayyam.
Khayyam sahab too had a whim – he decided that this set of bhajans had to be sung with a child like fervour. That was the challenge he placed before Rafi sahab, and the outcome was not-so-astonishingly perfect, wouldn’t you agree?

“Main Gwalo Rakhwalo Maiyya”

Genre – Non film Bhajan
Music - Khayyam

Duration – 03:16
Bitrate – 128 kbps

Sajdah Ji,

Another priceless gem from your Gharana! Just got to download this nice song! I tend to think that Rafi Saab's combination with Khayyam has got it right almost always!

Venkat

I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

"Akhiyan Hari Darshan Ki Pyasi"

Genre - Nonfilm Bhajan

How often from the steep
Of echoing hill or thicket have we heard
Celestial voices to the midnight air,
Sole, or responsive each to other's note,
Singing their great Creator?

"Samay Ka Khel Nirala"

Genre - Nonfilm Bhajan

O Time! the beautifier of the dead,
Adorner of the ruin, comforter
And only healer when the heart hath bled--
Time! the corrector where our judgments err,
The test of truth, love, sole philosopher,
For all besides are sophists, from thy thrift
Which never loses though it doth defer--
Time, the avenger! Unto thee I lift
My hands, and eyes, and heart, and crave of thee a gift.
