Thanks, Sajdah Ji, for this non-filmi geet. This one indeed stands out among your latest instalment of uploads.

Venkat

My research tells me that this nice Ghazal was penned by Jan Nissar Akhthar and the MD is Khayyam.

I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

Yusuf - i think the name 'Lala Asad Sattar' must have got mis-spelt here.

Actually they are 3 people - which is why Sajdah had mentioned 'The Three Musketeers'

Here is a relevant extract from Raju Bharatan's article in 1993 about Rafi (where he writes about how Rafi would not hesitate to sing for new, unknown music directors) :

"After all, who were Lala-Asad-Sattar but three instrumentalists who had turned music directors. Yet for even such a stunt trio trying to combine as a music director team, Rafi proved a salvation with such a surpassingly lovely solo in Sangram - Main to tere haseen khayalon mein kho gaya."

Thanks for the info Sri!

Mr. Saleem-ul-Haq's book mentions these two:

1) Laal Asar Sattar
2) Laala Sattar

It means that in the first group, all three were present but in the second one only two. But still the spellings are different! Mistake by Mr. Saleem too??

Good point, Yusuf. Actually, both the combinations were active.

After their start in 1965, one of the names seems to have dropped out. Their list of films is as under :

Movies of Lala-Asar-Sattar

1965 SANGRAM as Lala-Asar-Sattar
1965 JAHAN SATI WAHAN BHAGWAN as Lala-Asar-Sattar

1967 SHAMSHEER as Lala-Sattar
1967 ARABIAN NIGHTS as Lala-Sattar
1968 WATAN SE DOOR as Lala-Sattar
1968 KHILADI as Lala-Sattar
1969 CHALBAAZ as Lala-Sattar
1969 APNA KHOON APNA DUSHMAN as Lala Sattar
1971 SAAT SAWAL as Lala-Sattar
1972 PYAR DIWANA as Lala-Sattar
