Sincere thanks to you for this great beauty! Dil Bhar Gaya! Please see your thread for further comments.

I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

Hari Ram,

You have made my day/week/month with this really, really great solo of Rafi Saab! A must-download for those who do not know/have it! Many many thanks, Hari. After the recording of this song, Chitragupta must have gone on eulogising Rafi Saab!

Venkatji,
First of all thanks for reminding us of this beauty (many have downloaded and appreciated).
Sajdah has been rightly honoured and asked for comments, views on this song (I am nowhere near her in that respect and to be honest I always yearn for any of her comments). So, though I feel honoured, I take it as a heavy obligation. I will just give my comments (by no means this is a review as I can't do that).
The song is a beauty with lovey lyrics, Rafi voice is fluid, flawless, free, crisp, clear and very soothing (no rush, no hurry) and on top of this Rafi adds his own emotions (I strongly believe he proposed such embellishments of emotions in his songs, the MDs happily accepted). Rafi has done full justice to the composition (no wonder MDs showed full trust in Rafi's abilities all his career. "God we miss him badly").
I feel the song shows glimpses of other tunes, it starts, but not exactly, and reminds the start of "Humne to dil ko.., then somewhere as the stanza begins with line it reminds of Jahan daal daal par...stanza. Anyway, I found it lyrical and poetic (lovely off course), just imagine how the nearby standing heroin probably felt as the hero sung this song while shooting. I guess they most probably got in love with eachother (or even got married in real life). Well, poor lady, it was Rafi sahab singing and not the hero.
Sanjay

I may not be an expert but would like to state the following about this brilliant song of Rafisaab.

Each Rafisaab song is an epic by itself because of his unmatched vocals and style. This song is no diffrenet although credit must be also given to Chitraguta who till 1971, had recorded more songs with Rafisaab than any other musician. An original melody with very minimal oechestrastion, like most of his compositions were, allowing Rafisaab to guide the song to its glory.

The voice modulation is the key to this song just like most Rafisaab songs, a trait that no singer, male or female can match. One can feel without seeing the film its sung for Pradeep Kumar. The other aspect of the song is the impeccable voice control at very low range with the initial notes abd then moving to higher ones without any voice drag, something that is common to see in other singers.

Low or high octaves, he is brilliant. His voice gels beautifully with the music and seems a part of it as if it is 2 things from one source. His prouniciation was second to none and narrates the beauty of every word of the lyrics. Example the line Jhill mila gaye, most singers woud sing it as jill .....and if they sang as jhill....the words after that would be skewed as the voice requires tremendous control, both vocal and breadth.

Hope this helps.... rolleyes.gif

PLAYBACK SINGING STARTS AND ENDS WITH RAFISAAB. IN TERMS OF QUALITY, CONSISTENCY & VERSATILITY, RAFISAAB IS INFINITE LIGHT YEARS AHEAD OF ALL SINGERS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER HIM.

SS ji and Sanjay Ji,

My salutations for your passionate reviews of this very very great Rafi solo, "Chand Kitni Door Thha".

SS Ji, it is an honour for this thread to have such knowledge-backed posts in this thread. And who can say you are not an expert?

I tend to agree with Sanjay Ji that there is a shade of "Jahan Dal Dal" stanza in this song's stanza, but that is only because both are based on the same classical raaga! Equally, I can empathise with SS ji regarding his appreciation of Rafi Saab's enunciation of "Jhil Mila Gaye".

This song is at once semi-classical, modern, doting on the herione and, in short, a perfect expression of love!

It is great songs of this nature that make me feel that probably Chitragupta never got the credit he deserved!

Also, observe in the first Antara how he says "Hina Ka Rang Mal Gaya" in a harkat-ful way! Also, see how each time he sweetly stresses on the word, "Chand"! The song's tune, mind you, is quite complicated and very difficult to hum/reproduce.

Venkat Jee,

I think there are 2 duets in the Film(Rafi & Asha)

One"Dilruba Sun" uploaded by Sajdah Jee & the other "Dekho Jhoomti Jhoomti"

Are you sure the 3rd one "Basre Hi Hoor Gori Gori" is there in the film?.

Please let me know.

However, I am uploading "Dekho Jhoomti Jhoomti" in "Rafi Classics" now.

Thanks,

Kamala Mohanty
