Video:

For ripping from VCD, I use "# 1 Video Converter" which gives the option to convert into either AVI/DivX format or WMV.

In AVI/DIVX it gives the option to choose the screen output size and I can convert the clip to size 512 x 384, but that resulted in 14 files of 5m each after zipping!

Whereas in WMA format, the software itself sets the screen output size, 320 x 240, but has the advantage of converting to a few files, which is what I've done for easier upload/download.

While converting the Dev Anand clip from "VIDYA" for the Mukesh forum, I reconverted to a smaller screen output since the clarity/picture resolution was inferior with a larger picture. The bigger screen ouput comes out clear only from good quality DVDs, but not from VCDs of old movies.

Thanks for upload, Unni

There is no need to select higher resolution for conversion, since the original file in VCD is either 352x288 pixels(PAL) or 352x252 pixels(NTSC) resolution. MPEG is
a lossy compression technique, much of the information is lost during encoding.

VHS gives u good quality becos resolution is 720x576 , full PAL. Only compromise in case of VHS video casette is audio.

DVDs are available in different resolutions as under:

PAL Video:

720 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Full-D1)
704 x 576 pixels MPEG2
352 x 576 pixels MPEG2 (Called Half-D1, same as the CVD Standard)
352 x 288 pixels MPEG2
352 x 288 pixels MPEG1 (Same as the VCD Standard)

Ones having full frame size encoding give u best pictures.

Tailored as per TG's specifications! biggrin.gif

Video of the song "Machalti Arzoo", sung by Lata Mangeshkar, picturized on Nanda in Bimal Roy's "USNE KAHA THA", music by Salil Chowdhury.

I finally just watched this video that Unni had uploaded a while back.
I am a very very big fan of this song. But the picturization really had
me depressed. It just does not capture the energy that Salil has
got in the orchestration of this song. THe drums are just fantastic
and I had envisioned this really vigorous picturization with a lot of
(male for whatever reason) dancers in the background complimenting
the music.
Nanda on a swing and running around with her dupaTTa in the wind
just does not do it. Darn. THis is a song that I would love to
re-picturize with a modern dancing actress.

Old song's videos hardly justifies audios. Old-Audios are uncomparable.
As far as modern dancing actress concerns, the impact would be worst. From where the hell they can reflect the innocence, even 10% that of those old mastreos (actror/actress) had shown.

And lyrics, Usha-ji. Shailendra's 'haye re woh din' is a masterpiece, as are the other gems.

That's a tough one. Yes, the picturisation belies the music, it's sweet and simple; the music is probably representative of her state of mind (wishful thinking!). Even though I'd have imagined and liked a more energetic picturisation, I don't know which of today's actresses I see dancing to "Machalti Arzoo" except maybe Madhuri. I didn't feel the disappointment you did SB, maybe because I am happy if the song isnt totally mutilated in some of 'em movies. Can you imagine what I felt when I saw "Nain so nain nahi milao"... doesn't bear thinking about!

I'm tempted to add this one to the "Rolling Back The Years" collection. Lata-ji doing a Geeta Dutt! Just listen to her sexy intonation of "samaa"!

Yes deserves inclusion in RBY!!! Thanks for a new (for me) Tandem smile.gif (In case anyone's wondering - the male version is by Hemant Kumar)
