Ali bhai,

This is really a nice thread. I have learnt from ANT bhai that Rahul Dev Burman is the son of Sachin Dev Burman. I think that S. D. Burman & Mohammad Rafi combo would be another nice thread (I don't know whether such a thread exists already.

Thanks a lot for these nice songs.

Regards

A beautiful evergreen song of Rafi Saab.. He was and will be Raaton Ka Rajaa FOREVER smile1.gif ... its a fact that his name is on dharti peh sitaron tak ha uska naam.

The title song of this film starring Dheeraj Kumar and Vaishali. Although the film flopped the music was great. Notice the great use of the bongos, a nice tune to go along with excellent singing from Rafi saab.

Akhtar bro, Deewani ji, Kistin ji and rafik2, your appreciation/comments are much appreciated !

Kistin ji, both the father-son duo of SDB-RDB were talented, and yes the SDB-Rafi combo would be another good thread.

The most popular song of this film starring Sanjay Khan and Meena Kumari was the tandem version of "Wadiyan Mera Daman..." sung by Rafi and Lata. The next song is quite rare, featuring Rafi and Manna Dey, great use of the piano and a good rhythm. Both the singers compliment each other very nicely.

Pancham created many different songs in different genres, which reminds me of two other composers that covered alot of genres, Shankar and Jaikishan. The next song is from a film starring the Big B and Neetu Singh and has arabic flavour in it and great beats, both Rafi and Asha do full justice to the composition.

"We were having a sitting at Pancham's bungalow in Khar. Pancham, Majrooh saab, Nasir Husain, Shammi Kapoor and I were there. Pancham sat at the harmonium and began to present songs for the film (Teesri Manzil). He started singing Deewana Mujhsa Nahin, which is actually a Nepali folk song - O Kancha Maatailo.

When Pancham sang the first line, Shammi jumped up and began to sing the Nepali song. Everyone fell silent, we were all thinking, that's the end of the music of this film. Then Pancham took his taaveez which he wore around his neck, kissed it once, touched it to his forehead and started the next song, which was Aaja Aaja, and Shammi just erupted with joy and everyone went ballistic with a huge sense of relief though".

Prince Bhai:

Either you have misquoted Asha or she's got the facts wrong. First of all, the Nepali song is not a folk song but a romantic duet. Secondly, the wording is Eh Kanchha Ma Lai Sun Ko Tara Khasai Deuna (meaning: "Eh Kanchha, bring me down a golden star"). I used to have a low bitrate clip of this song but unfortunately it has been moved to another CD or HD. If anyone is interested I will look for it during the weekend and u/l it next week.

Thanks.

Binod.

Ek Janib - another wonderful trademark Rafi way to start a song - almost whispering "Sham-e-Mehfil". I didn't realize it was rare. That was an interesting anecdote about Teesri Manzil. A small contribution from me. A melodious Lata/Rafi duet from Phandebaaz 1978.
Mohabbat Mein Aji Kya Aap Apna Inteha Denge? Nahin Hum Apni Jaan Denge........
His pronunciation of "kasam" is most memorable.

BTW, I came across this old thread today where Pradeep and kcp came up with a RDB/Rafi list. smile1.gif http://www.hamaraforums.com/index.php?s=&s...findpost&p=3400

Princeali Bhai, do you have the full version of "MIAN NE SAU BAAR KHYALON KE BANAYE KHAAKE" from the same film Parchhaiyan 1972. This is also the Rafi-RDB combo. I have the song but it is faded out at the end of 2nd Stanza. Please u/l.

One more favorite of mine from Harjaee (1981) - Har Jalwa Tera Jalwa Teri Yeh Duniya Saari.......O Mee Raksam with Chandrashekhar Gadgil. Exceptional singing to match wonderful lyrics and beautiful music - now that's magic.
....."dil mein teri ulfat hai, yehi meri daulat hai..............mera kaaba kaashi tu, teri deed ibaadat hai...... mere yaar-e-haseen koi tujhsa nahin har naimat teri yaari........."

Prince-Bhai

Nice thread and songs!

I have a RDB interview on video where he mentions the musical sittings of Tessri Manzil. When he played the Nepalese tune first up Shammi K rejected instantly because Jaikishan had already played this tune to him in a music sitting for another film.

He was very hesitant with RDB scoring the music as he was replacing Shammi's favourites SJ. He only okayed RDB when he went to the recording studio and heard what he thought was Rafi & Asha rehearsing Aaja aaja mein hoon pyar tera.....he instantly loved the rock n roll feel of the song and asked RDB to record it straight away, thats when RDB informed him that the song has been recored already.

Interesting fact is that Shammi K later chose RDB for his maiden directoral venture Manoranjan even though Shankar was still around.regs

Laique bhai's request:

A great Rafi-Amit duet with a nice tune and great orchestration !

Bade Bade Logon Ke Yaar
Film: Phandebaaz
Year: 1978
Lyrics: Anand Bakshi

PS: In regards to your query Laique about who sings the Nepalese tune, it could have been sung by many people in different versions, I have not come across a released version of this song.

Binod ji,

The piece is from an Asha Bhosle interview and I quoted whatever was said in it. I am not aware if the Nepali tune is a folk song or a romantic song but it would be nice if you could upload it.

Cheers
