I think Iqbal-ji was referring to the Mohd. Rafi song, not the one by Lata Mangeshkar.

But Iqbal-bhai, the song "Nange baazu, nangi raane" is actually a disapproving comment, a protest against vulgarity, against the display of bare shoulders and thighs.

I am reminded of another song by Rafi-sahab, "Teen kanashtar peet peet kar gala phaad kar chillana........yeh gaana hai na bajaana hai", which was disapproving of the trend of music towards loudness.

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Everytime this topic comes up, first song that comes to mind is.. chaudhvin ka chaand ho... jo bhi ho tum khuda ki kasam laajawaab ho!! And we consider it a seductive number! biggrin.gif

Doesn't 'lajawab' simply mean "matchless", "incomparable", "unequalled" ? That being the case, the song would be more on the lines of extolling the beauty of Waheeda Rehman (quite appropriately! tongue.gif), rather than 'seductive'.

Hai na? Aapka kya khayal hai?

Chitz & Iqbal-bhai:

There are posts for you prior to this upload.

Now here's Rafi-sahab with a 'powerful' rendering:

We use in context like "delicious food" == "laajawaab khana", no?? (atleast thats what I think it is)

Unniji, another song comes to mind,

What do you think of….

Tu mere saamne hai teri zulphen hai khuli

Just saw the video of this song recently, before I used to think was a love song (with my limited hindi knowledge), but was very in contrast.

I know what you mean. I remember the sequence and the "circumstances". tongue.gif
The song by itself sounds innocent, but in the context of the movie there's more to it. blab.gif

As far as I can recollect, this qawwali recorded for "PAKEEZAH" was not used in the movie. And going by Rafi-sahab's voice, which sounds younger, I guess it was among the original songs recorded for the movie under the music direction of Ghulam Mohammad (well before his demise and Naushad-sahab taking over to complete the music direction of the movie):
