Lyrics of my favorite Munni Begum Ghazal.
Na jaane kaise nazar lag gayi zamaane ki Ke shaakh toot gayi, mere aashiyaane ki Yehi jo baithay hain, mehfil mein sarr jhukaye huwe Inhi ke haathon taqdeer hai zamaane ki Maar hi daal mujhe chashm-e-adaa se pehle Maar hi daal mujhe chashm-e-adaa se pehle Apni manzil ko pochunjaoon, kazaa se pehle Ek nazar dekh loon aajao kazaa se pehle Tumse milne ki tamanna hai khuda se pehle Tumse milne ki tamanna hai khuda se pehle Maar hi daal, Maar hi daal Hashr ke roz mein poochunga khuda se pehle Toone roka nahi kyun mujhko khata se pehle Toone roka nahi kyun mujhko khata se pehle Maar hi daal, Maar hi daal Aye meri mauth thaher unko zara aane de Zaher ka jaam na de mujhko, dawaa se pehle Zaher ka jaam na de mujhko, dawaa se pehle Maar hi daal, Maar hi daal Haath pohunche bhi na thay zulf-dotaa tak 'Momin' Hathkadi daal di zaalim ne, khata se pehle Hathkadi daal di zaalim ne, khata se pehle Maar hi daal mujhe chashm-e-adaa se pehle Apni manzil ko pochunjaoon, kazaa se pehle Maar hi daal, Maar hi daal _______________________________________________________________________________

Many thanks Azgar bhai
You won't believe this is the first Munni Begum ghazal which I've listened to, my mom loves MB & in the days of vinyl, she used to listen MB a lot & even coaxed me into getting some MB ghazals for her...you just did it, you've granted her wish Would love to listen to more of her works... |

Here's some more...I'm not very good at getting these compressed, sorry. Part of the problem I think is that I tend to record most tracks into m4a format.

Thank you JSW, especially for the Jhum Barabar song... I have attented one Munni Begum performance and have become a fan of hers since... it did not have the razzmatazz of usual shows... just her with a harmonium and a tabla accompaniment... and she was incredible... positively dazzling with energy... one of the best performances I attended... She ended with this song... the audience was swinging by the end...

I've come to discover accidentally that there are different recordings of some tracks...I have some and will upload them in the next couple days. They don't sound quite the same one from the other. For example Teri Surat Nigahon or Ae Mere Humnasheen.

What I love about her is the simplicity in many of her songs...just harmonium and tabla (just as you mentioned about the performance) - it's tranquil and wonderful. |

Hi MMUK2004,
Thats great - let me know how it was. Its hard finding albums for her. Farida seems more popular among others and takes up most of the section devoted to pakistani ghazals. I'd be curious to know what you have and I'll list the albums I have another time. Her voice is very unique in sound to me compared to other female vocalists. Thanks for the reply. By the way: is it just me or is that the only way to reach the Legendary Singers of Pakistan thread is by logging into HF? Everytime I simply go to HF without logging in the thread doesn't show up as if it doesn't exist at all. But when I log in it magically appears... strange that. Thanks again. |
