Whatever that may be Venkatji, as for me I simply cannot believe that SJ could come up with such classical composiiton as in BASANT BAHAR. It' so unlike SJ. Only the song KAR GAYA RE KAR GAYA RE sounds a little bit like a CHORI CHORI song MAN BHAAVAN KE GHAR JAAYE GORI.

Nasir ji its more to do with Image. SJ's songs have been immesnly popular. and thats why they are not related with such songs.

very few people know that probabily the best list of classical based songs are from Shankar jaikishan( popular and Quantity). check out the partial list of classical songs of SJ !

BTY basant bahar had one Rafi- SJ classical song. even better classical song was in pooja.

please listen to " jhoom jhooom ke gaao bansari" (pooja1954) by Mohd rafi saab along with classical singer krishna rao !

Really interesting article, SJ were great indeed.

I do not buy into Vijay Anand's argument that LP couldn't compose new tunes instantly The same Laxmikant compsed five songs on the spot when they found out Rafi saab was leaving for a foreign tour and got them recorded. Those songs were from Pyasi Shaam, Anjaana & Maa Aur Mamta.

Also how did Pyarelal learn background music from Jaikishan when LP had very little (if any at all) involvement in SJ's orchestra.

Ok he didn't click with LP in Ram Balram & Rajput but there is no need to question their ability and quality of work. A bit off topic but I had to make these points, back to SJ & Rafi.

Regs
Saj

Saj bhai article might be refering to Goldie's exp with LP 4 one movie and not is generlised comment on LP. and this can happen with any MD for some personal or intentional reasons as well !

LP didnt worked much with SJ but they did followed SJ blindly. I think she meant to say that Pyarelal indirectly learnt a lot from Jaikishan's style. Kalyanji worked and learnt a lot from SJ and Dattaram( his good frd ! ) ! and then pyarelal worked under kalyanji for long period.
( not more on this as this is Rafi forum !!.)

open to corrections !

Sonu Ji,

I do agree that in, absolute terms, SJ had composed a large number of very nice classical songs, probably many more than the other MDs. But, as the no. of SJ's classical songs, as a proportion of his total no. of songs, appears less, people do not think SJ is a classical songs' composer.

Can you please upload that Pooja (1954) song which you referred to?

Venkat

I have changed many views in life since my childhood, but not my view of Rafi Saab as the God-sent Gandharva who visited this Earth briefly to spread ultimate ecstasy among genuine music-lovers!

On going through the list of the classical songs of SJ, I find them popular too, except perhaps one. I love the Lal Patthar songs listed. RASIK BALMA has a history behind it. Even in that list the songs of Basant Bahar top the list in the sheer numbers of classical songs. I believe nothing can beat Rafi Sahaab's DUNIYA NA BHAAYE MOHE AB TOH BULAA LE....among his truly classical compositions.

Many many thanks, Sonu Ji, for this great upload.

This one is one of the few real classical songs composed by SJ, as against their many somewhat semi-classical compositions such as Duniya Na Bhaaye Mohe.

Rafi Saab too had sung only a few real classical scompositions, against his many semi-classical ones.

He had sung along with Krishnarao Chonkar another real classical composition by S.N.Tripathi for Film:Rani Roopmati(1959), "Baat Chalat Nayi Chunari Rang Daari".

Also, another real classical composition that comes to my mind is "Sudh Bisar Gayi Aaj Apne Gunan Ki" by Rafi Saab and Manna Dey for Film:Sangeet Samrat Taansen(1963), also composed by S.N.Tripathi.

There is one more class classical song Sung by Rafi-sumen for SJ - " Ajhun na aaye balma". I think only classical male- female duet for SJ. This rare classical song was by Jaikishan else most of the classical songs have been from shankar.

And then there is " radhike toone bansari bajayi" from I think zindagi(??)

and one semi classical " Judeh mein Gajra mat bandho" from dhoop chhaaon.

I like classical songs in Rafi saab's voice !. It suits my( personal) taste. is it possible to upload these two songs. specially the manna- rafi duet at appropriate forum or thread?

"Radhike Tu Ne Bansuri Churaayi" (not Bajaayi biggrin.gif ) is from Beti Bete (1964)--SJ.

Well, I think there are a few other Rafi-female semi-classical duets under SJ (and many more male-female semi-classical or classical duets under SJ).

One of those is "Kaise Samjhaavun Bade Na Samajh Ho" from Film:Suraj(1966)--SJ by Rafi-Asha.

Sorry lyrics ke mamle mein haath tight hai. Ohh yes Suraj wala bhi hai. yeh kaise bhool gaya. aur fir lal pather wala asha = manna ka.

But jaisa aapne kaha. pooja wala I think pure classical mein ayega.

Thanks for the song. yeh HFM ke khas songs mein se ek hai. do mahan singers !
