Shammi Kapoor romances Rajshree in this silky gem, a beautiful tune with simple music, it takes you back into a time when melody was queen and Rafi saab was king.

Meri Mohabbat Jawan Rahegi
Film: Janwar
Year: 1965
Lyrics: Hasrat Jaipuri

What is particularly notable about this song is the manner in which Rafi-sahab drops the pitch/note (?), then goes to a high pitch and drops it again.

Meri mohabbat Jawaan Rahegi (normal)
Sada Rahi Hai (lower)
Sada Rahegi (same as previous?)

Tadap tadap kar yehi kahegi (normal)
Sada Rahi Hai (lower)
Sada Rahegi (same as previous?)

Na tumsa koi zamaaney bhar mein (high)
Tumhi ko chaha meri nazar ne (high)
Tumhi ko chaha meri nazar ne (low)
Tumhey chuna hai (lower)
Tumhey chunegi (even lower)

Wonder why Shankar took an assumed name as composer for "CHA CHA CHA".

Thanks for the interesting info you're providing. Sincerely appreciated. bow.gif

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Ali Bhai,

Thanks for all these beautiful songs and especially for your amazingly professional presentation !

If you don't mind, I have a request.

"*In his best songs list Rafi saab selected Kahan Ja Raha Hai... (Seema) as number 2."

If this is suitable to this thread, please upload here, I would appreciate it. Otherwise please PM it to me.

Also, I would really appreciate if you could please write the whole of his best songs list. I wonder which songs he liked most.

Trivia – Part 3:

*Some mukhdas of SJ-Rafi songs that were later converted into film titles:

Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai
Tumse Acha Kaun Hai
Aa Gale Lag Ja
Kaun Hai Jo Sapnon Mein Aaya
Dil Ke Jharoke Mein
Gustakhi Maaf
Mere Sapnon Ki Rani
Sawere Wali Gaadi

*In the film An Evening In Paris, the title song and Deewane Ka Naam To Poocho... were picturised in Paris, Aasman Se Aaya Farishta... and Hoga Tumse Kal Bhi Samna... were picturised in Beirut, while the other songs [excluding the dance numbers] were shot in portions over Interlaken, Paris and on location in Canada.

*According to Shakti Samantha, Each one of the Rafi solos in An Evening In Paris was composed and recorded by Jaikishan, while Shankar composed the two night-club numbers plus the solitary duet.

*One of SJ's main assistants and a music director in his own right, Dattaram, lip-synched Rafi saab's Tum Mere Pyar Ki.... from Bombay Talkies (1970) acting as a playback singer.

*Some Non-Hindi words in SJ-Rafi songs:

Rammaiya Vastavaaya (Shree 420)
Rasa Sayang Re (Singapore)
Yahoo (Junglee)
Badkamma Ikkad Po Tora (Shatranj)

*The producer of a Telegu film (with music by SJ) named Jeevitha Chakram Gangadhar Rao had made a film before this entitled Nindu Samsaaram which had SJ-Rafi's Aaj Kal Tere Mere Pyar (Brahmachari) as My Diyar Tulasamataa, Bhale Chans Kottesa...

*In the film Professor (1962) the song Aye Gulbadan... had its stanza modified by SJ due to Rafi saab's suggestion and recorded accordingly.

*In his best songs list Rafi saab selected Kahan Ja Raha Hai... (Seema) as number 2.

The video of the song, as it featured in the movie. I doubt if any of the songs attributed to this film were played in full in the movie. Shankar-Jaikishen had created a lovely tune to accompany the titles --- "Good Times", rendered by Usha Uthup who also sang and featured in the film's sequence for the song "Hari Om Tat Sat". The Kishore/Asha duet "Typewriter Tip-tip Tip-tip Karta Hai" was picturized as a cynical parody of the typical Hindi filmi-gaana.

Unni-ji, the video was splendid, Thanks for it as well as the additional info, this film was in fact Usha Uthup's first film, and it was before RD used her in 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna'.

Sonu ji, please feel free to upload or contribute anything you want in this thread (same goes for anyone else), you are most welcome to do so. Thanks for the live version of the Suraj gem.

Kistin ji's request:

I am sorry, I don't have the list of Rafi saab's Ten Best of his choice, but I do know that besides this song he was fond of Suhaani Raat Dhal Chuki.... (Dulari), O Duniya Ke Rakhwale... (Baiju Bawra) and Tumhare Zulf Ke... (Naunihal).

Kahan Ja Raha Hai

I had these next two songs in pretty decent quality but the voulme in both was quite low. I wanted the volume to be increased so I sent them to Kistin ji and he not only did that, but cleaned and made the quality crisp in both the songs. Many Thanks to Kistin ji for this smile1.gif. Enjoy both the songs, as they are high quality CD tracks.

First song, another one of the many fantastic tracks Rafi saab sang for the 'Yahoo' star Shammi Kapoor, a breezy tune, great lyrics and overall a wonderful song. At this point in time (1961), the trio of SJ-Rafi-Shammi was just taking off and would create musical history in the next decade.

The second of the two songs, I think this is one of Rajinder Krishan's best written songs. Taking a part of the lyrics:

Mussavir Khud Pareshan Hai Ke Yeh Tasveer Kiski Hai
Banogi Jiski Tum Aisi Haseen Taqdeer Kiski Hai
Kabhi Woh Jal Raha Hoga Kabhi Khush Ho Raha Hoga

Khuda Bhi Aasman Se Jab Zameen Par Dekhta Hoga
Mere Mehboob Ko Kisne Banaya Sochta Hoga

What beautiful lyrics they are. Rajendra Kumar got to sing many amazing Rafi songs tuned by SJ, and this should rank amongst the very best.

Khuda Bhi Aasman Se
Film: Dharti
Year: 1970
Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan
