As a kid, I used to adore Kishore Kumar - eagerly awaiting his songs on the radio - which was, for a period, characterised by a surfeit of Rafi and Lata songs. Later, as I began to see his movies - my admiration and love for him as an actor surfaced. He was truly a unique and spontaneous comedian who did not get his due. Comic roles in films and songs came easily to him .... but quite suddenly he could switch to deep sadness and heart-rending songs.

In this thread we will discuss and share some of his old songs from the 50s and the 60s - when he was in his first avatar - this is the one I really adore.

Also Rangeeli - Baiyaan Chhodo Balam....

Also Vivz is right - guru used to sing words/lines in female voice in many songs all throughout till the 80's

The Half Ticket song "Aa Ke Seedhi Lagi Dil Pe Katariya" is indeed a duet with himself; apparently when he offered to do it everyone thought he was crazy!
The Parivar song "Kuen Mein Kood Ke Mar Jaana" features 6 or 7 voices by him in the same song (lost count!). It's a long one - over 7 minues, no doubt to accommodate all the voices.
I personally really enjoy that light-hearted fun phase of his singing.
Cheers.

Yes, I had the Half Ticket number in mind when I was rollf.gif.

The version that I have has a voice over (I think by Salil-da) where he says how Lataji couldnt make it to the recording and Kishore offered to sing in both the voices ...and the rest, as they say, is history. smile1.gif Moreover, the male voice in the song resembles Pran's voice extremely well. Did Pran have any dialogues in the song, or is it Kishore all the way ? unsure.gif (*I need to listen to it again to make sure ! *)

One more that comes to mind is SuNiye SuNiye that I got recently from HF (courtesy, Nimii smile1.gif). I havent heard any other multi-voiced songs of Kishore. sad1.gif Hopefully Sri-ji and all of you would upload some of them.

That's Kishore Kumar only, V-ji... very good Pran-like voice he used in Aake Seedhi Lagi...
Duets with himself... there's that amazing duet with himself, 'Baaba, O Khokha'!

Aha! A topic of my liking! Thank you very much, Mr. Sri. Guru was at his vocal best in this era, especially the 60-s. There was a disarming charm in his voice which was (& is) unmatched. It had the right blend of sureelapan & josh which gives me goose-bumps when I hear those numbers.

My PC with all it's collections has crashed, and in all probability, I have lost the 50-s & 60-s songs that many of friends in HF had given me. I take this opportunity to list their names as far as my memory recalls:

1. Kaustubh-bhai
2. Bobby-bhai
3. Raman-bhai
4. Sunil Surve
5. Jayanta-babu
6. Amit-da
7. Priya-sis
8. ROM-bhai
9. Unni-saab
10 Nimmi-sis
11 Bawra Jay-saab (in that awesome 'Pakka Dhaaga' thread)

...and a few more friends who are not a part of HF. I do not want to share the sadness of losing these numbers as I'm confident that I'll retrieve them somehow.

Uploading a few songs that I found from a friend of mine in office. Also uploading an xl-sheet of ALL the Guru numbers (pre-Aradhana) that I have never heard, ever. (Will give members an idea about what HMV can actually do to make us happy for a lifetime!). I just hear Guru's voice in these songs & ask myself a rhetoric, 'can any voice sound better than this??'

Regards-Archie.

P.S. Naughty Boy (1962). - Music by Sachin-karta
Hum Sab Ustad Hain (1965) - Music by LP.
(Apologies for any poor quality of files or if they have been uploaded recently. Request the ADMN-Team to delete if the uploads have been repeated)

Note how the antara of 'ab to batla arey zaalim' resembles the same of 'diwana mastana hua dil' from Bambai Ka Babu (a typical Sachin-karta stamp.)

Yes, I had the Half Ticket number in mind when I was rollf.gif . Moreover, the male voice in the song resembles Pran's voice extremely well.

Vivek - your observation was excellent - the voice Kishore used for Pran was such a perfect fit. Another unforgettable memory I have of that sequence (apart from the kishore ones) was the dancing of Pran rollf.gif - it was just too funny to watch him try to dance - must say he acted well - Pran was also an actor with much more talent than his stereotyped roles allowed him to show. But of course, Kishore takes the cake - especially his singing in the female voice at the end !!! So uniquely Kishore Kumar - no one else can even think of singing like that. He had that unique 'madness' about him.

archie:

I'd have on my hd most songs I've uploaded and all the ones downloaded. So, as 'rom' said, please post a list of the songs you lost. We can re-upload them.

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Rom-bhai, Unni-saab, thanks for your gestures. Will keep this in mind after my own attempts are over. Anyway, I'm sure this thread will generate a lot of requests & I'll be able to obtain some of the songs.

Yours thankfully,
Archie.

Here's a song sung by Kishore Kumar and Kishore Kumar - as playback for KK,KK,KK,KK,KK and KK
Yes, that's true !
Kishore Kumar appears on stage acting out 7 different roles - as the hero who is the compere making the announcements, and on stage in 6 roles - as Charandas, the wife of Charandas, a pathan, a munshiji, a wine shopkeeper and a pawn-broker.
He not only acts as the wife of Charandas - but also provides the voice to go with it. The song is sung mainly by Charandas -with the other KKs making different sounds at the end.

There is some initial dialogue which I have retained because it is interesting. The audience is waiting anxiously to see the dance of Devi ( Vyjyantimala ) - who is unwell - and Kishore takes it upon him to entertain them. In this dialogue he suddenly breaks into Bengali and then moves smoothly on to Punjabi, Gujarati and Urdu ... as if they were all one language !! The female voice at the end is Vyjayantimala's.

Charandas ko peene ki jo aadat na hoti, to aaj miya baahar biwi andar na hoti
from PEHLI JHALAK 1954. Music of C Ramchandra and lyrics of Rajinder Krishan
from the DVD soundtrack

Enjoy ! gift.gif

Sri

Thanks, Sri-ji, for reminding me how this song was picturized... From what I recall in the movie, the storyline seems to be adjusted a bit to put this song in. Vyajyanthimala got caught in a fire and so couldn't come onscreen, and thus Guru decided to put up a show for the assembled audience, which was beginning to get restive...
Thanks!
