Ah, I think I know this one, Shivani.

The hotel has $25, each of the 3 men have $1 each and the bellhop has $2, making it a total of $30. Hence there is no missing dollar. The $9 each paid by the 3 men has been allocated to the hotel $25 and to the bellhop $2.

Right Anil ji : ) ..

one more..
Three men, members of a safari, are captured by cannibals in the jungle. The men are given one chance to escape with their lives. The men are lined up and bound to stakes such that one man can see the backs of the other two, the middle man can see the back of the front man, and the front man can't see anybody. The men are shown five hats, three of which are black and two of which are white. Then the men are blindfolded, and one of the five hats is placed on each man's head. The remaining two hats are hidden away. The blindfolds are removed. The men are told that if just one of the men can guess what hat he's wearing, they may all go free. Time passes. Finally, the front man, who can't see anyone, correctly guesses the color of his hat. What color was it, and how did he guess correctly?

As usual, my wrong answer wink2.gif

The 2 guys at the back tell the front guy the colour of his hat. rollf.gif

You haven't said that they couldn't talk to each other poseur.gif

Black?

Though the correct answer is already provided by Mandrake, here is one more approach (Just in case the three people are speech-impaired or will be killed if they speak to each other wink2.gif )

There are 7 possibilities as below:
B-B-B
B-B-W
B-W-B
B-W-W
W-B-B
W-B-W
W-W-B

Starting from bottoms-up, last one is eliminated because if first two were wearing white, last person will obviously have black hat on his head as there are only 2 white hats. In this case, last person would have guessed correctly.

This means that either first person or middle person is wearing a black hat.

Second-last and third-last scenarios would have easily helped middle person to identify that he is wearing black hat. This is because since the last person could not guessed, either middle person or first person is wearing black hat. In these two cases, however, first person is wearing white hat so middle person should have guessed that he is wearing black hat.

Now since after some time, neither the last person nor the middle person could guess their respective hats, last three cases are ruled out and hence first person guesses that he is wearing - a "Black Hat"

Cheers,

smile1.gif right Vivek .. The first person replies with Black and MJ.. your observation is admirable. You must be getting all the information from customers in advance and put it on paper before starting the work smile1.gif. Anyways, they were not supposed to talk to each other.
another one.. pretty simple..

Penuche Fudge finished before Near Miss and after Whispered Promises.
Whispered Promises tied with Penuche Fudge if and only if Happy Go Lucky did not tie with Skipper's Gal.
Penuche Fudge finished as many places after Skipper's Gal as Skipper's Gal finished after Whispered Promises if and only if Whispered Promises finished before Near Miss.
The gambler thought for a moment, then answered correctly. How did the five horses finish the race?

First - Whispered Promises

Second - Skipper's Gal and Happy Go Lucky tied

Fourth - Penuche Fudge

Fifth - Near Miss

The above ranking would appear to meet all the conditions imposed on how the horses finished the race.

Answer is 1113213211

U have to look at the line above to find the next line. Example,
1 = one
11 = one one's
21 = two one's
1211 = one two's, one one's
111221 = one one's, one two's, two one's
312211 = three one's, two two's, one one's
13112221 = one three, one one's, two two's, two one's

1113213211 = one one's, one three, two one's, three two's, one one's
