ye kya yahan pe sawal to sawal saath me turant -furant jawab bhi aa ja rahe hain.... huh.gif

khair for the problem of money , i did as follows..
initial amount Rs x and y paise
given Rs y and x paise
after buing the paper, money left 100y+x-50 paise == 3(100x +y ) ; as proceeded by many of us

so this gives 97y = 299x + 50.==> x = (97y - 50)/299
here i did thoda sa Badmaashi...made a small program..tongue.gif x cant be a fractional no. , just provided values of y from 10-99 adn checked the output versus y............. simple............. rolleyes.gif laugh.gif

jokes apart, my approach was same as vivek's......baki shirt wala question mere se nahi hua..sad1.gif vaise kabhi na kabhi to same hona hi hai... smile.gif

There is a method to solve equation with two unknowns (don't remember much of numerical methods now sad1.gif). Anyways... computers make life easier for us smile1.gif. But then look at the simultaneous equation solution (above somewhere) which can be solved little more easily.

A small case I remember reading some time ago.

A man dies as he is shot and police are investigating the murder case. Now this guy gets shot while he was falling down from a buliding and crossed 39th floor. HE was actually trying to commit suicide and had jumped off 40th floor. But there was a net spread that day at the base of building as some repair work was going on, so if he was not shot, he would have been alive. So the police goes to arrests the person who had fired the gun. Now this second guy siad, he did fire the gun but under assumption that it was not loaded. He owned the gun and always use to threaten his wife during fights with that empty gun. His wife confirms the story that her husband indeed used to threaten her for past 40 years and the gun has never been loaded and all the neighbours also knew this. So now it is established that the first death was an accident and someone wanted to kill the woman and so loaded the gun in hope that during next fight she would get killed. Upon further investigation it is found that the gun was loaded by the woman's son, who was tired of her constant bickering and cutting off all his cashflow. The police goes to arrest the son.. and finds he is the same guy who got shot during the accident. He had been trying to kill his mother for loing time and got failed at that .. so got tired and decided to kill himself. He used to live a floor above his parents, and had jumped from his window... Now should police arrest the guy for planning his own murder unsure.gif

and now another one..pretty simple

Two identical twin brothers go into a bar. They order the exact same drink. The only difference is one brother drinks quickly, which the other drinks his much more slowly. The one who drinks slowly dies afterwards.

The second one first (applying logic from another puzzle I had come across)... There were ice-cubes with some frozen particle. Since the first guy finished his drink fast, by the time he fnished, ice-cubes were not melted but by the time the slow-guy finished his drink, his ice-cubes melted and frozen particle got mixed with drink and so he died.

Pardon my 'unilateral' wink2.gif thinking, or twisted logic, or as Judge says 'Maskarapanthi', but Vivek, there can be a twist in the tale here perhaps blab.gif

She says, 'the one who drinks slowly, DIES AFTERWARDS'. Meaning, the one who drank quickly, died first wink2.gif

So what's the big deal? huh.gif

QUOTE(shivani @ Sep 15 2005, 09:51 PM) *

mmmm Vivek : ) since you are on roll.. another one...

6. A man is on top of a 20 storied building, when he sees a bear approaching him. To avoid getting killed by bear, he jumps from the building.. (better way of dying maybe tongue.gif). A window cleaner observes that this falling guy took 2 seconds while crossing 18th floor which was 2.2 meters high. So the question is.. What is the color of bear ?

The logic says there cant be 20 storied Building at north pole...Wrong Q?

Hey Shivani ...becoz there is no 20 storied building at north pole .... tongue.gif

anyway
my Question is smile1.gif

There are 12 coins, all identical in appearance, and all indentical in weight except for one, which is either heavier or lighter than the remaining 11 coins. Devise a procedure to identify the counterfeit coin in only 3 weighings with a balance.

Vikram, just a quick idea:
Assuming that coin is heavier,
1) put six coins each in the two sides of a weighing machine. One goes down. Discard the six on the lighter pan.
2) Of these six, put three each on the two pans. One will go down. Discard the lighter 3.
3) Put just TWO - one each on the two pans. If one of them goes down, that is the heavy one. If both balance, then the one that's left outside is the heavy one.

Self - belief is the most potent force.
