Don't remember any mathematical problem off hand and so moving to simpler areas, here is a lateral thinking question. Very easy if you think properly...

A man and his son are in a car accident. The father dies on the scene, but the child is rushed to the hospital. When he arrives the surgeon says, "I can't operate on this boy, he is my son! " How can this be?

Since we are at it.. let me ask the classic bulb problem . There are three bulbs in a room and you are allowed to enter the room only once.
Now you have to tell which switch is for which bulb.

Now you have to tell which switch is for which bulb.

Switch on two bulbs for 5-10 mins. Put off one of the bulb and enter the room. One will be on, one will be hot and one will be at room temperature.

There are a number of answers for this:
1) There may be only one switch for all three bulbs
2) There may be indications under every switch for the respective bulb
3) The switches are outside, and there is a window from where you can figure out the connections
4) You can refer to the switchboard layout next to the switches wherever they are
5) You yourself are the electrician, so you know the system perfectly
