Jagjit Kaur had very sweet voice, but she had vey less work to her credit.mostly worked under Khyyam in Umraojaan also.
there is also one trio sudha malhotra, talat ,Jagjit kaur mohhabot ki dhun bekraron se puccho another melody.her another sweet song is "larri ve larri tujhse ankh jo larri" from shola aur shabnam it was the same tune of Surinder kaur song ari ve ari or vice versa

The topic will involve posting songs motivated by western tunes.

For example: "Oh Babu oh Lala" was motivted by "Rum and Coca Cola".

One would post both the songs and details about those.

Sorry, but upload of Western tracks is not permitted in the forum.

Thanks for the warning. This will be done for a very specific and limited purpose to
show what Indian talent can do enhance from a single line.

In general, I agree with the policy.

Jay Ji,

Nice catch on the impromptu tabla. Normally, our beloved heroes and heroines move their hands on any musical instrument they are supposedly playing in a manner that reminds me of "kahin pe nigaahen (aur haath), kahin pe nishaana". However, the lady playing the sitar in the video seems to be playing the sitar part note for note (at least to my untrained eyes). I have never seen such a perfect "rendition" by anyone on the screen before.

Just an observation.

Zippoo ji,

You are a keen observer. In many Indian movies, the hero is playing the violin or Piano, but there is NO
Violin or Piano sound in the track!

K. L. saigal not only sang on the sets, but required that a full orchestra follow him around!

By the way, keep sending these awsome videos. I have all the audio tracks that I want (some captured
from the film), but videos only from HF. So, please send anything that you have.

At times, I have taken parts of a song from the 78 rpm and part from the movie to construct a longer track.

For example, in Shri 420, Lata sings a snippet of "Mera Joota Hai Japani" near the end, and I have added it
to the Mukesh song.

Ashish I donot recollect any other movie where she had played a significant role. One thing I know about Peace Kamal or Kanwal is that she was crowned as Miss India in 1953.

Another great song from the legend :

HUMSE NA POOCHHO KOYI PYAR KYA HAI PYAR KYA HAI

POOCHHO BAHAAR SE POOCHHO BAHAAR SE

MOVIE KALI GHATA (1951)

SINGER LATA MANGESHKAR

MUSIC SHANKAR JAIKISHAN

LYRICS HASRAT JAYPURI

SONG PICTURISED ON ASHA MATHUR AND THE MAN LISTENING TO THE SONG IS

FAVOURITE HERO OF UMMER.......KISHORE SAHU (UMMER,.. KISHORE SAHU HAS MADE

SOME MEMORABLE MOVIES AND IN SOME OF THEM HE HIMSELF WAS THE HERO)

She started singing in the Marathi movies in the year 1943. "Majhaa Baal" was perheps the movie name. This song is composed by Vasant Desai, a prominent music director of Marathi movies even at that time. rolleyes.gif

Since she did not have much role to play (sing) in this song, I said this might be her earlier recordings and not full song, probably for this reason, it does not find any mention in the record books.

Does anybody know that in 1948, besides "Chunariya" about which the records say she sang that one group number, she sang solos also? What do the records say about this....

Says Khayyam, "Asha and I have worked together right from my first film, Biwi, in 1948. I had asked Asha to sing Mere man ke aangan chand chamka for the then superstar Mumtaz Shanti. She sang it beautifully".

Maheshji,

The records do mention the film Biwi and the song only as 1950--maybe the film took 2 yrs to be produced? Even before that in 49 Asha sang for Khayyam in the film Parda. The records say her first solo was in 1948--2 songs for the film Bhakt Gopal Bhaiyya. Unfortunately these do not seem to be available. sad1.gif

Lady playing sitar - Jayshree Gadkar (Shantaram's second wife and Rajeshree's Mom)
Chappie singing - V Shantaram
The "pot" lady - no clue, anyone??

Questions (inspired by idle curiosity):

1 Did Shantaram ever divorce any of his wives? Who was his first wife? I know Sandhya (ughh) was his 3rd wife.
2 Was Jayshree Gadkar a trained musician?

I have just started viewing these treasures, thank you everyone bow.gif So little time, so much music/ videos/ radio programmes!

I may be wrong but I think Peace Kanval came into the film world
by winning a Kolynos-Kardar contest. She also appeared in
Kardar's Barati.

Priye Bhraata,

Aap ki ijaazat lete huey yeh chhota sa bheynt meri taraf se.

Besides being one of the best serenades ever, sung mellifluously by the only one who could do full justice to it, and the heavenly shayari, there is one very unique thing that happens in this video. Dekhein aapki rai mere se milti hai ya nahin.

Afaik, the sitar in this song was played by Ustad Rais Khan.
