Priye Bhraata,

Aap ki ijaazat lete huey yeh chhota sa bheynt meri taraf se.

Besides being one of the best serenades ever, sung mellifluously by the only one who could do full justice to it, and the heavenly shayari, there is one very unique thing that happens in this video. Dekhein aapki rai mere se milti hai ya nahin.

Dear Zippoo,

I agree with you 100%. This may be the best song of all time!

In the movie version, one of the ladies picks up the flower pot and uses it to add an "additional" tabla.
The added rhytms are interestingly merged with the original tabla.
The Record is ony 3 minutes long and does not have the adde rhythms.

In this same movie, there is another awsome song by Lata, "Kut-the hain dukh mein ye din", also considered
by some to be her best.

Thanks,
Jay

Shyama looks so lovely in the song'Yeh lo mein haari piya' ,also' yeh dil mujhe batade' infact she looks good in all her old b&w movies, only later she put on too much weight....all those old heroines looked so naturally beautiful.

Ushaji, in the eighties, Shyama had appeared on television in the Tabassum's programme "Phool khilein hain gulshan gulshan". She was really fat at that time. I distinctly remember that she, with her distinctive smile, said that when her children saw her movies they said "Mummy tum pehle aisi thi...ab tumhe kya ho gaya hai".

Urzung Saab....yes this version was not released on records....the records have only kanan bala as the singer.

Madhvi and Ashish...thanks for appreciations

Ummer and Rajnishji.....rest of the songs from Sawan Aya Re...will be uploaded.

Bhratashri Zippoo....Aapke to saare uploads he zabardast aur madhur hote hain....ye ek aur bahut achha upload hai....koshal bhai ne baaki sab baaten details mein bataa di hain.

Sharmaji,

I want to start a new topic and want to sound out your opinion.

The topic will involve posting songs motivated by western tunes.

For example: "Oh Babu oh Lala" was motivted by "Rum and Coca Cola".

One would post both the songs and details about those.

The purpose here is not to acuse anyone of stealing, but to see what Indian talent can do
with one line from a foreign tune.

What do you think?

Jay

Sorry, but upload of Western tracks is not permitted in the forum.

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Jay Ji,

Nice catch on the impromptu tabla. Normally, our beloved heroes and heroines move their hands on any musical instrument they are supposedly playing in a manner that reminds me of "kahin pe nigaahen (aur haath), kahin pe nishaana". However, the lady playing the sitar in the video seems to be playing the sitar part note for note (at least to my untrained eyes). I have never seen such a perfect "rendition" by anyone on the screen before.

Just an observation.

I doubt if Ashaji sang in Hindi films in 44. Even in Badi Ma she only acted and Lataji playbacked for her. All records say her first song was in 48--the grp number in Chunariya. sad1.gif

She started singing in the Marathi movies in the year 1943. "Majhaa Baal" was perheps the movie name. This song is composed by Vasant Desai, a prominent music director of Marathi movies even at that time. rolleyes.gif

Since she did not have much role to play (sing) in this song, I said this might be her earlier recordings and not full song, probably for this reason, it does not find any mention in the record books.

Does anybody know that in 1948, besides "Chunariya" about which the records say she sang that one group number, she sang solos also? What do the records say about this....

Says Khayyam, "Asha and I have worked together right from my first film, Biwi, in 1948. I had asked Asha to sing Mere man ke aangan chand chamka for the then superstar Mumtaz Shanti. She sang it beautifully".
