by the way, Rustom Sohrab was the last film of music director Sajjad Hussain ( as well as for Suraiya, who sang "yeh kaisi ajab dastaan ho gayi hai"in this film )

Sri,
Sajjad did give two more films after RUSTOM SOHRAB, they were:
MERA SHIKAAR
AAKHRI SAJDA

many thanks for the info about these 2 sajjad movies - i had not heard of them

these movies are not usually listed among sajjad hussain's 'released' movies - which normally seem to end with Rustom Sohrab in 1963 - were these movies unreleased ? do you know ? earthmusic does list these movies and shows some songs under these movie names - would anybody have these songs by any chance ?
film : aakhri sajda - 5 songs listed - 2 of Rafi
1. bulaalo dar pe habeebe khuda khuda ke liye Mohammed Rafi
2. nigaahen shauk se rahmat ka jaam de saaqi Mohammed Rafi

film : mera shikar
3 songs listed - singers unknown

Kristin-ji:
I recommend you to listen to all SD Burman songs. He's given some of the best numbers to all the singers : Rafi, Kishore, Lata, Asha, Geeta Dutt, Hemant Kumar, etc.  You will not be disappointed
Also listen to Rafi's songs with the music director duo of Shanker- Jaikishen during the same era of 1955 - 1970. Again, worth the effort

And of course, a HUGE thanks to Sri-ji for all the wonderful uploads at his 'rare' threads

Visuja bhai,
Thank you very much for the recommendations which are valuable for me!
I surely will follow them.
I'm very lucky that Hamara Forums are like a library. Although usually I got lost in this huge forum set, I need a long time for exploring Hindi music, which will be a pleasure for me! smile1.gif

And of course, tons of thanks to Sri Bhai for his kindness. bow.gif

thanks !

Regarding Mahendra Kapoor and Mohd Rafi ... they rarely sang together. My guess is that since their voices were somewhat similar ( this is what most people say - though i can spot the difference from a mile away) it may not have seemed like a good idea. After all the two distinct voices in any duet must clearly represent two different persons on the screen.

The only song that comes to mind with these two is the song "Kaisi haseen aaj bahaaron ki raat hai "from the film Aadmi 1968. Music of Naushad. Even here there is a story that Naushad wanted this song to be a duet of Rafi and Talat ( Rafi for Dilip Kumar and Talat for Manoj Kumar). But Manoj Kumar apparently insisted on Mahendra Kapoor as his screen voice. So, as a compromise, the screen version had Rafi and Mahendra Kapoor singing together while the gramophone record released had the Rafi and Talat version !!

I am bringing this up only to ascertain if one of our members can possibly clarify it, based on information.

According to the mention in SCREEN online (which I'd posted), it was Rajesh Roshan who first recorded a song with the two singing together. The article did refer to the "AADMI" song and stated that MK had 'dubbed' the portion originally sung by Talat-sabab. One of our members suggested that in those days the recording techniques were not sufficiently developed for such dubbing, that Rafi-sahab and MK recorded it together. Frankly, I've no knowledge about the recording techniques prevalent then. All I know is that even in those days, dubbing was done over the voices of South Indian artistes acting in Hindi films. In the movie "MAYUR PANKH", dialogue spoken by foreigners was in faultless Hindi/Urdu, evidently dubbed. It has been reported that Naushad-sahab was a pioneer in multi-track recording in Hindi film music. Which leads me to wonder if he was able to retain Rafi-sahab's orginal recording track, and substitute Talat-sahab's track with a 'new' recording in MK's voice.

Does anyone know?

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.

Interesting question, Unni
Why don't we ask Naushad ? or Mahendra Kapoor ? If anyone has contacts
Let me also try this through some of my contacts in bombay

Sri Bhai,
I have a request from << Mohammad Rafi - Sachin Dev Burman combo >>

Chupke Se Mile - MANZIL (1960) ... by Mohammad Rafi & Geeta Dutt

I had downloaded ( don't remember time, possibly from Hamara Forums) a black and white video clip of this song. This song is unbelievably cool ... cool ... cool! It became one of my favorites.

Is it possible to upload the auido version if it is not "easily available". At last I understood that HF has a principle of not posting the "easily available" songs, and I respect this principle.

Thanks in anticipation,
Kistin smile1.gif

Hi Kistin Bhai,

I'm glad I can start returning the favour. This is also a favourite of mine. One reason being that the actress Nutan (who the song is filmed on) is my favourite actress.

As far as being easily available I found it to be rare and it took me a long time before I found it on CD. I have uploaded @ 96kbps but can upload at a higher bitrate if you would like.

************* NOTE - bitrate upgraded to 128kbps ****

************************************************

Enjoy!
