Here's a Rafi song i like from the film Benazir 1964 - picturised on Shashi Kapoor.. with Tanuja and her saheli trying to peep into his room and listening to him singing

Music is by SDBurman ( RD fans may note - he was the assistant music director for this film - like he was, for many SDB movies of that period ). This also has the relatively rare combo of SDB's music with lyrics of Shakeel Badayuni

this is from the film's soundtrack

enjoy !  gift.gif

Thanks a lot for this song. Really a nice one. Perfect match of Rafi and S.D. Burman whose songs in my opinion are very difficult to sing.
By the way, as a non Indian, I liked the songs of S. D. Burman. He apparently has a unique style.

Is it possible to upload more S.D. Burman songs sung by magic sound Rafi?

Best regards,
Kistin

Kistin bhai,

If you give us a list of your requests, we will be more than happy to help you out smile1.gif

You are right, the SD Burman-Rafi combination is magic !

Ali Bhai, you know that I explore Hindi music in this forum. So, I have no list. But I think it would be nice if other songs of this film Benazir 1964 could be uploaded.

Thanks in advance.

Kistin,

S D Burman and Mohd Rafi made magic together (like several other such combos) and had innumerable hits.

The movie Benazir was not among SDBurman's best known movies and the song you liked was also, therefore, a little rare. Unfortunately the other songs of the film are not sung by Rafi ( there are a couple of good ones sung by Lata Mangeshkar ).

Will try and add some of this combo's rarer ones on this thread for you - meanwhile if you can tell me some of the songs you have liked - it will help me to select suitable ones which you may like

Thanks for your interest .. and keep watching this thread for more

Sriji, Mr. Kistin being from Turkey, may not have much idea about the hindi movie songs. What is morel amzing is that he likes the older hindi movie songs. Of course the period till 1970 is considered as the golden era for hindi music.

For benefit of Mr. Kistin....the maximum number of songs of Rafi and SD Barman combination were picturised on the evergreen Dev Anand Saab bow.gif
Who can forget the songs of Tere Ghar Ke Saamne, Guide, Kala Pani, Kala Bazaar
and many more movies of these stalwarts? bow.gif bow.gif bow.gif

mahesh

your mail sparked off all those lovely songs in my mind ... and i felt like writing down all the well known numbers that came to my mind - from various SDBurman films over the years. I stopped at 1970 ... because after that, it was mostly Kishore Kumar all the way with SDBurman ( maybe with the exception of Abhimaan) !

There are so many lovely numbers ... but if I had to pick only one, specific consistently great period - then, that Rafi-SDB golden period (in my view) would be between 1963 and 1965 ... which saw the release of the movies Tere ghar ke saamne, Meri surat teri aankhen, Guide and Teen Devian. Such great music in such a short span of time ...despite the fact that during this same period SDBurman was laid low with a heart problem ... and could not take up more work !!

Anyway, here is the list of songs ( that came to my mind ).. there may be some others which I may have missed. Pl feel free to add. Anyone.

NAU DO GYARAH 1957
- Aaja panchhi akela hai…with Asha Bhosle

PYAASA 1957
- Hum aap ki aankhon mein…with Geeta Dutt
- Sar jo tera chakraye
- Yeh duniya agar mil bhi jaaye

KALA PANI 1958
- Hum bekhudi mein tumko pukare
- Achha ji main haari chalo maan bhi jaao na… with Asha

KAAGAZ KE PHOOL 1959
- Dekhi zamane ki yaari

KALA BAZAR 1960
- Khoya khoya chand khula aasmaan

BAAT EK RAAT KI 1962
- Jo ijaazat ho to ek baat kahoon….with Asha
- Akela hoon main is duniya mein

MERI SURAT TERI AANKHEN 1963
- Tere bin sooni nain hamare
- Nache man mora magan

TERE GHAR KE SAMNE 1963
- Ek ghar banaoonga tere ghar ke samne…with Lata
- Tu kahan yeh bata is nashili raat mein
- Dil ka bhanwar kare pukar

BENAZIR 1964
- Dil mein ek jaan-e-tamanna ne jagah paayi hai

ZIDDI 1964
- Pyar ki manzil mast safar

GUIDE 1965
- Din dhal jaaye haye raat na jaaye
- Tere mere sapne ab ek rang hain
- Kya se kya ho gaya bewafa

TEEN DEVIYAN 1965
- Aise to na dekho ke humko nasha ho jaaye
- Kahin bekhayal hokar yun hi choo liya kisine

JEWEL THIEF 1967
- Dil pukare aa re, aa re aa re…with Lata Mangeshkar

TALASH 1969
- Palkon ke peeche se kya tum ne keh dala …with Lata

ISHQ PAR ZOR NAHIN 1970
- Mehbooba teri tasveer kis tarah main banaoon

"Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)

Thanks Maheshks for his kind help smile1.gif

I agree Maheshks, because, I have been downloading old hindi songs for more than 2 years, and observed that the songs in the range 1960-1969 are mostly nice according to me.

Sri Bhai, I would be grateful If you can kindly upload starting with Kala Bazar (1960) songs.

NOTE:

I have two songs indicating that they are from Kala Bazar which are not in your list:

1. Rim Jhim Ke ... Mohammad Rafi and a lady whose name I don't know.
Quality of the song I have is very poor. I would appreciate if you can upload.

2. Suraj Ke Jesi ... Mohammad Rafi.
Quality is OK.

Are these from Kala Bazar?

Finally the song in your list

KALA BAZAR 1960
- Khoya khoya chand khula aasmaan
I don't have it and will be grateful if you can kindly upload.

Thanks in anticipation.
I will surely keep watching this thread as I had before! clap1.gif

Regards,
Kistin

This song was 'revived' and released a few years ago on CD - so this is not completely the original version ... but has been embellished slightly to sound better. You may like it.

The singer with Mohammed Rafi is Geeta Dutt, another famous female singer of those times

As was the general practice with Bengali music directors like Salil and Hemant Kumar ( known as Hemanta Mukherjee in the Bengali music world), this song appeared in Bengali about 2 years before the Hindi version appeared in Rafi's voice. The Bengali version was sung by Shyamal Mitra in 1963 ( Shyamal Mitra later composed music for a few Hindi films like Amanush in 1975)

Pradeep

thanks for appreciating - when others enjoy something that we have liked - it gives extra pleasure - the pleasure of having shared something nice with someone

which is why we members should never deprive other fellow members of this pleasure by not thanking them or by not expressing our enjoyment. i too am guilty of not thanking all that i should have !

not that we should say thanks for each download ... but certainly for the ones which we have truly enjoyed. I am making a conscious effort to do so

If you have the full track of "Jodi Kichu Amaareyi" sung by Shyamal Mitra, please upload it in the "Kachha Dhaaga" thread in the Bengali songs forum.

Thanks!

Kristin-ji:
I recommend you to listen to all SD Burman songs. He's given some of the best numbers to all the singers : Rafi, Kishore, Lata, Asha, Geeta Dutt, Hemant Kumar, etc. bow.gif You will not be disappointed smile1.gif
Also listen to Rafi's songs with the music director duo of Shanker- Jaikishen during the same era of 1955 - 1970. Again, worth the effort bow.gif

And of course, a HUGE thanks to Sri-ji for all the wonderful uploads at his 'rare' threads bow.gif
