Sri-ji !

Aapke songs to badhiya hote hi hain, your snippets are even more interesting. Ive noticed this asst MD thing only (sad1.gif ) in case of RDB in many of SDB movies, although have read that LP, even KA, assisted many MDs. Probably, a well known fact is that Laxmikant was also a very well accomplished violinist, his most famous one probably being his accompanying piece in the Haqeeqat number - Main Ye Sochkar Uske Dar Se Utha Tha.

Look forward to any such snippets from you. smile1.gif

Next song is one from the Kishore Kumar film Bewaqoof 1960 ( produced and directed by I S Johar). I S Johar has a scene to sing to his female counterpart ... and so Rafi gets a chance to sing in a Kishore Kumar starrer. The opening verse, mukhda, of the song is very much 'inspired' (as they say ) by an international hit of the same year which went by the name of 'Mustapha'. This was produced by Bob Azzam and his orchestra, in French ... and later, had versions by other singers in many other languages including English.

The assistant to S D Burman in this film was none other than R D Burman ... so one can guess that this 'inspiration' may have been suggested either by him or by the producer/director ?? I have also attached a small clip of the original Mustapha song which hit the popularity charts in 1960 ( of course, this 'original' song is also based on some traditional middle-eastern / north african tune !!)
Here's : Hum to hain tum par dil se fida, yaar le lo chaahe kasm-e-khuda. Enjoy !! gift.gif

Visuja ji, the violinist in this case is Pyarelal. Laxmikant used to play the mandolin. One of the prominent songs where he is playing in is the introduction and interlude pieces of "Ghar Aaya Mera Pardesi" from 'Awara'.

Sri ji, Thanks for all the songs, keep up the good work !

The 1982 Filmfare award winner "Sanam Teri Qasam" featured music by R.D, and had a quite popular Kishore song that went "Dekhta Hoon Koi Ladki Haseen". Folks who remember that tune will immediately figure out why I mention it in the context of the snippet above!

Some tunes certainly have a long marketable life !!!!!

Thanks for bringing out the connection.

Yes Sri. Am reminded of Madan Mohan's quote - "Bhaavna kaisi bhi ho, kisi bhi kala mein dhali hui......use waqt aur zamaana qaid nahin kar sakta"

Yes Sri. Am reminded of Madan Mohan's quote - "Bhaavna kaisi bhi ho, kisi bhi kala mein dhali hui......use waqt aur zamaana qaid nahin kar sakta"

Hits Ji ,do you have any interview of Madan Mohan, he is my favourite composer. I remember him say that Rafi Saab is a "Sachcha Kalakaar" in one of his old interview retelecast in DD Inida. If you have please share.

No Jam, I do not. The quote I mentioned is from a snippet in the "Veer Zaara" Audio CD.

Another song that I remember on the same tune is the one in which Shammi Kapoor stars and I think the film is Dil Deke Dekho or CHINA TOWN(not sure)- KYA TERI MEHFIL HAI SANAM, KHO GAYE HUM ALLAH KI KASAM..... YA DILRUBA YA DILRUBA.

I have this song but not in good quality and maybe someone can U/L it.

Legendrafi : You are absolutely correct !! Thanks for pointing this out.

The song Kya teri mehfil ( better remembered as Ya diruba ya dilruba ) was from China Town 1962 - music of Ravi - and was also based on the same 'Mustapha' song - just like the two others discussed on this thread earlier. So now we have 3 4 :

1. Hum to hain tum par dil se fida - Bewaqoof 1960 - S D Burman ( Asst : R D Burman ) - as per my post # 123
2. Kya teri mehfil (Ya dilruba ya dilruba) - China Town 1962 - Ravi - info courtesy hits
3. Dekhta hoon koi ladki haseen - Sanam teri kasam 1982 - R D Burman - info courtesy legendrafi
4. Meri muhabbat ka tu gawah (Ya mustafa) - Aatish 1994 - Nadeem Shravan - info courtesy vivek (visuja)

Wonder if there are some more based on the same 'Mustapha' tune popularised in 1960 by Bob Azzam in France ? Interested parties may refer to post # 123 for a clip of the 'Mustapha' song - which, interestingly enough, was itself not an original tune ... but was based on some middle-eastern/north african traditional tune !!

Possibly blasphemous to post here wink2.gif .. but here goes nevertheless

The same tune was repeated in Atish (1994) -- Nadeem-Shravan --- for Meri Mohabbat Ka Tu Gawah. Immediately could relate it to the China Town number. Didnt know other 'similar' numbers existed !

Thanks Hits and Sri ! smile1.gif
