DHARM BHAI JI AAP KA BHUT BHUT SUKRIYA
VERY RARE SONGS
1939 YAMLAA YAAT
MD- GHULAM HAIDER
LYRIC-WALI SAHIB
SINGER, NOORJHEAN.SHAMSHAD BEGUM,
CAST--- PRAN, NORRJHEAN, RANJAN, AJMAL, DURGAHA KOTE
PLZ, NOTE PRAN JI & NOORJHEAN JI FROM THIS MOVE COME AS HERO AND HERONE. FRIST MOVIE

DHALL

CORRECTION: Yamla Jat was released on May 22, 1940 in Palace cinema Lahore. So it is not
a 1939 movie. RANJAN is actually Ranjana... the heroine and Durgaha Kote is actually
Durga MoTa.. a comedian. Baby Noor Jahan acted in the movie as younger sister of Anjana.
The song 'kankaaN diyaaN fasalaaN' was picturised on Anjana.

Dear Sir,
I confirm that the film was censored and released in 1940. But I am doubtful about the date of release. As per my records, the film was to be released from 2 June, 1940 (Sunday) at Palace Cinema Lahore. As per your information the date of release being 22 May, 1940 was Wednesday. So we can draw some logical conclusion as most of the films were used to be released on Fridays.

Mahesh Saheb ji
The audio cassette Of Koday Shah songs that I have ( I think it's from Classic Movie Club) has one chorus song ' O jatta Aaee Waisakhi' which has quite a few male and female singers whose names are not shown but distinctive parts by singers sounding like Asa Singh Mastana and others were part of this chorus.Since all other songs have their singer names credited one may surmise that in this chorus song, one of the female singers could be Mohinder Kaur.Harjinder

As per my information, this chorus was sung by Meena Mangeshkar and Shaminder.

Garg saheb
Thanks for the information on film Koday Shah.If you listen to 'O jatta aaee Vaisakhi' you would hear more than one male and more than one female voice. While Shaminder may be one of the male voices and Meena one of the female ones there definitely seem to be voices of other singers like Asa Singh Mastana in there.Harjinder

Dear Mr. Harjinder,
Asa Singh Mastana was my colleague in RBI for long period of more than two decades. We used to share the same table. He told me that he got Rs.51/- for the HEER rendered by him in Hindi film "Dooj Ka Chand" and a railway ticket from Delhi to Bombay. He had also sung in Satluj De Kande, a punjabi film in which late Sh. Balraj Sahni was the hero. Mr Mastana also composed the tune for that song in Satluj De Kande. He had not thereafter sung for films as Punjabi folk was his forte.

Dear Garg saheb
Thanks for your response. I think Koday Shah is an older movie than Satluj De Kandhe. The audio cassettes that I have of these two movies ( From Claasic Movie Club) show the song ' O jatta aaee Vaisakhi' to be from Koday Shah which I believe is older by more than five years. Satluj De Kandhe probably came out in late 50's or 60's.Koday Shah I think is from early to middle 50's.Harjinder
