Since Saigal is one of my all-time favorites, I thought I would get this section going. I'm fairly new to this forum and have limited song resources and internet speed, but I hope these songs are ok.
Here is one of my favorites. |

QUOTE(gckasturi @ Jun 3 2005, 12:31 AM) Since Saigal is one of my all-time favorites, I thought I would get this section going. I'm fairly new to this forum and have limited song resources and internet speed, but I hope these songs are ok. Here is one of my favorites. Hello Gckasturi, I am another passionate fan of K.L.Saigal and am collecting all of his songs that are in good quality. Its so heartening to know there are people like you out there willing to share his songs. Would you happen to have the songs you've uploaded here in better quality, perhaps in 128 bit rate? If you do have those original songs from CDs or LPs, would it be possible to rip them in 128 bit, thus maintaining a better sound quality than 16 bit as most of the uploaded songs are? Any help, insight, advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Sham |

Count me in as an incorrigible Saigal admirer. I was born long after this mesmerising voice was silenced forever. Yet it continues to mesmerise me to-date, and I am sure for the rest of my life. I believe that among all the legendary singers, it is Saigal who can be described as a "crooner", simply because of the manner in which the songs used to flow effortlessly from his throat. Reminds me of the flow of sacred Ganga just above Rishikesh iwhere t comes down the Himalayas and descends into the plains. This effortlessness is visible in the very first song recorded by Saigal for Hindustan Records, Jhulana Jhulao Gaavo Ri. Notice the start: Da Na Na Na ...........
While over 90% of his film and non-film songs are commonly available, the heart craves for the rest 10%. Those from his early movies, Mohabbat Ke Aansoo, Zinda Laash, Daku Mansoor etc. and the lesser known songs from some of his other movies. I hope the most resourceful among HF contributors can one day oblige us. I also noticed recently Unniji uploading videos of Waqt Ne Kiya and a few other immortal songs of Geeta Dutt. The video clip that I have been yearning for is the one where Saigal sings "So Ja Rajkumari" for the heroine of Zindagi, Jamuna. Years ago, in one of the shradhanjali programme for Saigal, I heard Dilip Kumar describe the scene from the movie when Saigal sings this song and since them it has always remained my most cherished desire to view this, most immortal of all lories from films. Equally I remember the DD documentary on Saigal where Pankaj Mullick is moved to tears in memory of Saigal while remniscing this song. Pradeep |
