QUOTE(mahesh @ Jun 5 2005, 12:32 PM)

unniji,
...
the song is also unique that a large number of celebrities like amitabh bacchan, shabana azmi, rekha etc have again and again mentioned this song as their ultimate favourite.
...
regards,
mahesh

I remember seeing an interview of Shabana Azmi, and in her opinion the best song her father wrote was actually another Geeta Dutt song from Kaagaz Ke Phool - "Ek Do Teen" - a philosophical song presented as a Kids song. It was u/led on HF just a few days back.
Cheers

I remember the amount of time I spent trying to edit out the sound of the aircraft taking off, at the time I had copied the audio of this song sequence! tongue.gif Obviously, the audio track is better, without this disturbance. But the sound is in context in this movie sequence picturized on the eternal Venus of Hindi filmdom.

This Geeta-ji classic, as we know, is a reprise of the non-film C. H. Atma song which catapulted O. P. Nayyar to fame.

I downloaded and extracted the file and it played fine. Please try downloading it again. Wonder if anybody else had problems with the file. doh.gif

Presently I don't have the DVD of "Sahib, Biwi Aur Ghulam", but on a Songs Compilation DVD I've "Piya Aisey Jiya Mein" and I shall upload it. Had already uploaded "Bhanwra Bada Nadaan" also on the same DVD. Shall also look out for a DVD of the movie to copy clips of the other songs.

Also a suggestion:
Bombayites can help probably or someone in this forum!!!
I read in an article

http://203.199.69.66/columns/nadita_puri/2...tober/94152.htm

that Arun Dutt said if asked about his mother Geeta Dutt, he can write a book easily as the kids were very close to her than their dad.
So many things have been written about Guru Duttt but nothing about Geeta Dutt.
So someone can go and ask him to take up this project!!!!
If I were in Bombay I would have surely!!!
-In hope

Relevant portion:

“My mother Geeta Dutt was just the opposite. She was very carefree and full of fun. They were total opposites in that respect. We kids were closer to her. You ask me about her and I can write a book. As for my father, it was more the image I grew up with, than the man.”

I read a comment on the previous generation of Indians by Bappada in the context of lack of success of Kagaz Ke Phool at the box office. It is indeed surprising that this happened given the fact that both Pyassa and Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam, released before and after Kagaz Ke Phool and with similar ingredients (brilliant story, direction, acting and music), were successful. It is equally difficult to explain the failure at box office of Raj Kapoor's classic, Jagte Raho. So one can draw a little comfort from the fact that Kagaz Ke Phool was in good company.

"KAAGAZ KE PHOOL" was a box-office disaster in its time. Today it is regarded as a tiimeless classic!

It was suggested that the movie was too autobiographical (Guru Dutt). That the story line was changed during the making of the movie.

But both these propositions do not justify its lukewarm response from movie-goers.

Not that I have researched the kind the movies that were popular then, but were "KAAGAZ KE PHOOL" (1959) and "JAGTE RAHO" (1956) too realistic in an era when escapism and romanticism prevailed at the box-office?

If you stop trying to make sense of it all, you'll be less confused. Reality is an illusion.
