(Majrooh) Miss Coca-Cola (1955)
It was in 1955 that Geeta Bali and Shammi Kapoor, the leading pair of this film, while shooting for "Rangeen Raaten" fell in love. After that when Shammi proposed to her, Bali was at first hesitant. She acted with Shammi's father in "Anand Math"ť in 1952 and with his older brother Raj in "Bawre Nian"ť in 1950 and was afraid that she will not be accepted in their family. But Shammi pressed on and the two got married in August 1955 in one of the Banganga temples near Mumbai. They kept their plans as a secret from their respective relatives. Their marriage lasted only 10 years as Geeta passed away unexpectedly in 1965 but not before she molded the career of her husband from a so so actor to a sought after star. Here are the songs from this film which paired Geeta & Shammi... This post has been edited by swarapriya: Aug 4 2013, 08:25 PM Attached image(s) ![]() |

(Rajinder Krishan) Sazaa (1951)
Amarjeet’s “Teen Devian (1965)” must have been inspired by this early Dev’s 1951 film. There are several commonalities in these two movies. Both starred Dev in the lead role. In “Sazaa” three women are in love with him, two rich and one poor. This same premise was the basis for “Devian”. Also, for both these films SD was the music composer. Incidentally, SD’s name was listed as “S.D. Verman” in “Sazaa”. N.Dutta was SD’s assistant. Movie lists only Rajinder Krishan as the lyricist. But the song “Tum Na Jaane Kis Jahaan Mein” was written by Sahir Ludhianvi who was not credited. It turns out that this song became a chart buster even though other songs are also equally melodious. Many singers had their own version of this song. Also many instrumentalists had a field day playing this song on their favorite instrument. I am uploading songs, specials, music clips, and instrumentals of this film in four back-to-back posts. The first post contains all songs from the movie. The second post contains several music clips including the title music. The third post contains some specials and a couple of instrumentals. The fourth post contains all instrumentals. Here are the songs from Burmanda’s beautiful album… Attached image(s) ![]() |

(Shakeel) Dil Diya Dard Liya (1966)
I am skipping my chronological order of uploading films in this thread to accommodate a request of a fellow member. Parts of the following write up appeared earlier in one of my postings of this film... Here is another movie based on a famous English novel "Wuthering Heights" by Emile Bronte. It was published in 1847. The story tells passionate but thwarted tale of two ill-fated lovers. In 1939, famous Hollywood director William Wyler (of “Ben-Hur” among others) made this into an award winning popular movie with Merle Oberon and Sir Laurence Olivier. It was remade in 1992 with Juliette Binoche and Ralph Fiennes, but this time around the adaptation was tame. When producer and director Kardar approached Dilipji with the story that he was thinking of making it into a movie, Dilip Saab at once took the story to the heart. He saw an opportunity as he immediately recognized that the complex character presented many challenges that demanded different skills as an actor. On one side as a silent lover the performance demanded much restraint. On the other side the villainous nature has to bring in from the actor subtle shades of grey. On another dimension, the role offered a chance to show pangs of pathos of a heart broken lover. All said and done, when the movie was made and released, a consummate actor he is, Dilip Saab pulls off all these different facets with much magnificence and élan. It was rumored that Dilip Saab spent much time with Kardar Saab in developing his and the character played by Pran. In the first half of the film Pran Saab whenever appears on the screen gives a scare to everyone. His presence was at once menacing. However I felt that in the later part of the film his performance was on the hysterical side. A great actor he was, it could have been wonderful if he slightly underplayed his role in the second half of the film. But the director was trying to bring out the contrast between the silent performance of Dilip Saab to vocal performance of Pran Saab. Waheeda, the object of everyone's love interest in the story, was stunningly beautiful. As usually is the case with her, she exuded not only grace and charm but pulls off her role matching scene for scene with Dilip Saab. There are some beautiful songs Naushadji created to the lyrics penned by Shakeel Saab. Listen closely to the solos by Rafi Saab. Especially the way Rafi Saab sings the songs, "Guzre Hain Aaj Ishq Mein" and "Koi Saaghar Dil Ko". Only Rafi Saab can deliver such masterpieces. But my favorite happens to be the duet of Asha and Rafi Saab, "Saawan Aaye Ya Na Aaye". This is an absolutely sweet duet with Naushadji's imprint all over it. I am uploading all songs, music clips, and some specials in three back-to-back posts. I ripped songs from the film and music clips from a DVD. I have an original soundtrack album of these songs. But DVD songs are all longer in the sense there is music associated with them. If anyone would like, I will be happy to share the songs from the original soundtrack album. Here is the first set of songs… Attached image(s) ![]() |
