(Anand Bakshi) Madhavi (1969)
This movie introduced a new heroine named Deepa in the title role. I am not sure if she ever appeared in any other Hindi movie. But this period drama, based on the 1958 Tamil film “Mahadevi”, was simply badly done. LP provided the music. Couple of solos sung by Lata are noteworthy. Here are these and other songs from this film in two back-to-back posts… Attached image(s) ![]() Attached File(s) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

(Hasrat Jaipuri) Aas ka Panchhi (1961)
This predictable drama is lifted by fine music by Shankar & Jaikishan. Almost all songs from the film became very popular. Assistant music director was Sebastian D’Souza. I am uploading all of the songs from the film and some music clips in two back-to-back posts. Here are the songs in the first post… This post has been edited by swarapriya: Jan 25 2016, 11:11 PM Attached image(s) ![]() Attached File(s) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

(Majrooh) Dr. Vidya (1962)
This movie tells the story of an idealistic educated woman married to a man from a small village with not much education. He suffers from that inferiority complex and disowns his wife. The rest of the story tells how the woman wins her husband back. Very pretentious and preachy movie that was lifted by Burmanda’s fine music and Vyjayanti Mala’s performance. There are several good songs in the film with Lataji’s songs “Khanke Kangna” and “Pawan Diwaane” topping the charts. Burmanda was assisted by his son RD. Interestingly title credits omit Rafi Saab’s name as one of the playback singers (he had two duets). Mukeshji’s name is listed. Mukeshji sang only one song in the film but that was not included in the final film. Rafi Saab’s songs are there in the film but he is not included in the credits. Go figure that out. (Rajinder Krishan) Kangan (1959)
Before I watched the movie I thought it would be a family drama. But the movie begins with a murder and the suspense involves several family members and their relatives. Until last few minutes of the movie the identity of the real murderer is not known. The director was in quandary as whether he was not sure if he wanted us to watch a family in crisis or a suspense drama. The unsure nature of the handling between the two subjects makes the film weak. Chitragupt provides an average score. (Rajinder Krishan) Bandi (1957)
I am re-uploading these songs on request... This movie tells a story of two brothers, one educated but unemployed and the other illiterate but devoted to his older brother. Kishoreda who had the major role in the film played the younger brother. His role had shades of comedy mixed with tragedy. It was simply amazing that how Kishoreda switched between comic situations to stirring pathos and vice versa so easily. It is too bad that he did not play many more serious roles. Hemantda’s music has several good songs in the film. Lata’s “Mere Haal Par” and Kishoreda’s “Chup Ho Jaa” are the standouts of the album. Especially the later song is simply superb. I am also including here a special version of this song with Ameen Sayani’s introduction. I am uploading these and other songs from this film in two back-to-back posts. Here are the songs in the first post… Attached image(s) ![]() Attached File(s) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

(Anand Bakshi) Mahal (1969)
This average suspense drama has excellent music by Kalyanji & Anandji. Several songs from this film became popular. Topping the charts was “Aankhon”. (Shailendra) Masoom (1960) This movie tells travails of three orphaned children, two boys and a girl, all very young. The story unfolds as the older boy tries to find suitable places for his younger brother and little sister. For a change, this movie shows that there are many people out there who are willing to extend a helping hand. Robin Banerjee’s music is one of the highlights of the movie. It starts with beautiful title music and in the span of two plus hours sprinkles some fine songs around. A couple of songs from the film became extremely popular. These were “Humein Unn Raahon Par” and Ranu Mukherjee’s lovely “Naani Teri” (music for this song was composed by Hemantda). Subir Sen’s voice in the song “Humein” is deadpan for Hemantda’s. Even intense hearing does not give any clues that it is not Hemantda singing but it is Subir Sen. Incidentally there is a question about the female singer of the duet “Tu Prem Nagar”. Many sources list Sudha Malhotra as the singer. But I have also seen the song attributed to Sabita Banerjee. The DVD titles don’t help here. It omitted listing credits of all the playback singers. I am requesting members with Geet Kosh to please help clarify this. Many thanks. Apart from the two popular songs mentioned above, I have another favorite from this film. It is Suman Kalyanpur’s song “Nanhi Si Gudiya”. Beautifully composed, the song was passionately sung by Sumanji. It lingers in your thoughts for a while. Some of the songs have faint hum in the background that I could not get rid of. For this reason I am uploading all the songs at a lower bit rate. Here are these… Dear Swarapriya the song TU PREM NAGAR KA SADHU is sung by RAFI SAHEB & SABITA BENNERJEE AS PER HFGK. Thanks |
