Dedicated Member Group: Angels Posts: 15469 Joined: 8-January 08 Member No.: 36307	(Shailendra) Parakh (1960) Bimalda got the Best Director Award for this enjoyable film with the backdrop of a small village. Salilda who gave magnificent music with several melodious songs also wrote its fine story. Kanu Ghosh and Sebastian were assistant music directors. Sadhana, who passed away recently, played the role of a simple girl displaying her versatility as an actress. I am uploading all songs and several instrumentals in two back-to-back posts. The first post contains all the songs from the film and three harmonica instrumentals by Milon Gupta. The second post contains all instrumentals of the lovely song “O Sajana”. All these instrumentals are just beautiful, except for one. Brian Silas, the noted pianist, disappoints with his rendition of “O Sajana”. One can hardly tell if this is the song he was playing. I am including it here because of his popularity. Here is a blithely Nutan paired opposite a buoyant Dev and when mingled with some breezy music by Burmanda for the songs written by magnificent Majrooh Saab the result is a playful ride called "Paying Guest". This movie has no pretensions to be anything else but to entertain. It does so superbly. I have several favorite songs from this album. Among them are Lata's "Chaand Phir Nikla", Kishoreda's both solos, and both duets. My personal favorite is the duet "O Nigaahen Mastaana" where Asha is just humming along to the crooning of Kishore. It is an absolute charmer. This album is an out and out winner... I am uploading these songs in two back-to-back posts. The first post contains all songs from the film. This includes the song “Gaye Ghabraake Mil” by Geetaji. This song was not included in the film. It is from an audio from You Tube that was uploaded by Parag Sankla. The song was contributed by Romesh Vora. Thanks Romesh and Parag for the song… The second post contains several instrumentals of some of the popular songs from the film. I am not sure if she ever appeared in any other Hindi movie. But this period drama, based on the 1958 Tamil film “Mahadevi”, was simply badly done. LP provided the music. Couple of solos sung by Lata are noteworthy. Dedicated Member Group: Angels Posts: 15469 Joined: 8-January 08 Member No.: 36307	(Majrooh) Dr. Vidya (1962) This movie tells the story of an idealistic educated woman married to a man from a small village with not much education. He suffers from that inferiority complex and disowns his wife. The rest of the story tells how the woman wins her husband back. Very pretentious and preachy movie that was lifted by Burmanda’s fine music and Vyjayanti Mala’s performance. There are several good songs in the film with Lataji’s songs “Khanke Kangna” and “Pawan Diwaane” topping the charts. Burmanda was assisted by his son RD. Interestingly title credits omit Rafi Saab’s name as one of the playback singers (he had two duets). Mukeshji’s name is listed. Mukeshji sang only one song in the film but that was not included in the final film. Rafi Saab’s songs are there in the film but he is not included in the credits. Go figure that out. But the movie begins with a murder and the suspense involves several family members and their relatives. Until last few minutes of the movie the identity of the real murderer is not known. The director was in quandary as whether he was not sure if he wanted us to watch a family in crisis or a suspense drama. The unsure nature of the handling between the two subjects makes the film weak. Chitragupt provides an average score.
