Good find, Nimii !!! Well done !!
Gul-e-bakavali appears to have music by viswanathan-ramamurthy. Don't know about the Unnai kann thedude song. You also mentioned about Asha (1957) song - when I was playing Ina mina dika - this was also sung by P Susheela in tamil - in the movie Adhisiya penn (1957) which was made by AVM simultaneously with Asha. Both had music by C Ramchandra Sri "Jis din is duniya se nafrat aur khudgarzi mit jaayegi, us roz yeh insaan naachega, us roz yeh dharti gaayegi" - Rajinder Krishan (Maa baap 1959)

That is right Sriji!
I found many more songs in that cd I had posted details a few weeks back..some of them are straight copies of hindi songs.. probably movies were either dubbed or remakes. N |

Ok here is another fine sample ! Kaahe Naina Lade.. by LM and P.Susheela's Unnai kann thedude are more or less the same.. I dont know who are the composers for Kannavane kannkanda daivam N "Kanavane kaN kanDa deivam" (what a great name for a film, just brings a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye ) had 2 music directors. One was Hemant Kumar. The other I cannot recall, but I thought it was a Telugu composer. Was it maybe A Ramarao?? Anyway, I have heard the Lata solo, but I don't know what film it is from. Perhaps it was a Hemant Kumar film? There were a lot of Hindi songs that were copied into Tamil. If you ever want to find them easily, just look for songs composed by Veda. If they were not copied from Hindi cinema, the inspiration came from English songs. Other than one fantastic film "Paarthiban kanavu" where the music was fantastic and I think mostly original, most of his other work is put together from pieces and parts of songs from other sources. Just recently saw a film called "CID Shankar" which starred Jaishankar and Shakuntala (she was actually called CID Shankuntala since this film was such a success) and pretty much every song was a copy. There was a copy of "Dil pukaare aa re aa re aa re" from Jewel thief, a copy of "Dil dil se milaakar dekho" from Memsaahib and a copy of "Nain tumhaare mazedaar o janaab-e-aali" from Junglee. And the best part of the Junglee copy was that the interlude music between the songs was from some other Hindi song. I have a CD called "Best of Veda" or "Golden Collection" and it is amusing cause very few of the songs are originals. One of his best adaptations was the song "PayanginaaL oru maaLigai" which is inpsired by "Bali hai" from the play/film "South pacific". Exceptional song, wonderfully sung by L R Eswari (a singer that I am quite fond of). About the song from "Gul-e-bakaavali", I think Chitalkar probably took the song from Vishwanathan-Ramamurthy. I think VR were big on not copying and this was too early in their career for them to do that. But this is just speculation on my part. Anybody know which film came out first? |

Veda ..... nowadays composing as Deva ???
I saw the "Dil Pukaare" version recently on TV !! .. sigh... was so bad ... now every time I listen to the Hindi version.. mereko Tamil picturisation yaad aata hai !! N ki farmaaish par...I'm gonna begin farmaaishing songs..... I have many of them but in pathetic quality (mostly recorded from MIO !). So if my requests dont get fulfilled, I'd assume no one has them... and then proceed to share my ear-splitting versions with all of you ! The first in line (my earlier request elsewhere fell on deaf ears.... sigh ... !) Song : ADAta manamum uNDO Film : mannAti mannan (1960) Singers : TMS - MLV Picturised on : MGR - Padmini Would be highly if someone cud provide the video !! Padmini's grace and beauty in the dance is as usual AWESOME ! |

Some trivia on this song Vivz! pad beta pad!
In Mannathi Mannan MGR used Maruthakazi for a song called "aadatha manamum uNdo" the only song that TMS and MLV sang together, in which Maruthakazi penned lines in praise of Makkal Thilakam as follows: naadengum koNdaadum ougazh paathayil-veera nadai podum thirumENi tharun bothayil... eedEthum illatha kalaichEvayil-thani idam koNda umaik KaNdu ippoomiyil.. pasunthangam unathu ezhil angam..
