hello friends,
starting a thread for our most under-rated music director-s n tripathi.also a request to the administrators for a separate sub-forum for this maestro.
here is a bography of the maestro from downmelody lane.

Actor, singer, composer, story and screenplay writer and film maker. The Late Shri Nath Tripathi was a man of many parts and talents. Many creative artistes have achieved greatness and immortality in the Indian film industry but only a few have displayed the range of versatility that S. N. Tripathi did with such consummate ease. S. N. Tripathi's main field of endeavour were the much-neglected, much scorned mythologicals to which he brought an aura of credibility thanks to his scholarship and painstaking research. Of course, much more would be required before S. N. Tripathi's immense contribution to the Indian film industry can be assessed properly.

Shri Nath Tripathi was born in a Brahmin family of Kashi (Benaras, U.P.) on 14th March 1913. His grand father Pandit Ganesh Dutt Tripathi was principal of Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, Kashi and his father Pandit Damodar Dutt Thakur was principal of Government high school, Kashi. He completed his education from Banaras. He did his B.Sc. from Allahabad. He took classical music training from V N Bhatkhande's Morris College of Music, Lucknow. He took light classical and folk music training from Maina Devi, Lucknow. He earned himself the degree of 'Sangeet Praveen' from Prayag Sangeet Samiti and 'Sangeet Visharad' from Morris Music College.

He went to Bombay and joined Bombay Talkies in 1935 as a violinist. He then joined music director Saraswati Devi as an assistant at a salary of Rs. 100 per month. He got his first break in Jivan Naiya as a singer ('Ae Ri Daiya Lachak Lachak Chalo..') in 1936. Jivan Naiya was also the first film of Ashok Kumar. He left Bombay Talkies in 1938, his last film with Bombay Talkies was Bhabhi (1938). In 1939 he got his first independent break as a music director in 'Chandan', which ultimately got released after two years in 1941. He composed his first song 'Nanha Sa Dil Deti Hoon..', sung by Rajkumari and Tripathi himself. He got his first success as a music director with Panghat (1943).

Besides music, Tripathi also tried his hand in acting. He got his first chance to act, in a film called 'Ram Bhakt Hanumaan' (1948), he played Hanuman in the film. He acted in many films in between. But he persued his career as a music director. He created some beautiful songs for the films like, Uttara Abhimanyu (1946), Ratan Manjari (1955), Janam Janam Ke Phere (1957), Pakshiraj (1959), Rani Roopmati (1959), Laal Quila (1960), Sangeet Samrat Tansen (1962) etc.

His first directorial venture was 'Ram Hanuman Yudhh' in 1959. He directed few more films after that, like, Kavi Kalidas (1959), Pakshiraj (1959), Rani Roopmati (1960), Amrit Manthan (1961), Piya Milan Ki Aas (1961), Sangeet Samrat Tansen (1962), Shiv Parvati (1962), Dev Kanya (1963), Maharaja Vikram (1965), Kunwari (1966) etc.

He was a many-splendoured personality. He composed music, wrote dialogues and stories for many regional films also. He died on 28 th March 1988, in Bombay.

Janam Janam Ke Phere (1957)

Let me jump start this tread with one of Tripathiji's popular album, "Janam Janam Ke Phere (1957)". I collected these from various sources but quality is uniformly good. All songs at 192 KBPS. All songs were written by Bharat Vyas. Extended versions of the songs are by the courtesy of the Forum members. Also a caution: the songs "Baj Rahi Shehnai" and "Tan Ke Tambure" don't seem to play on all MP3 players. Just want you to be beware of that before you download them. Also, the extended version of "Zara Saamne" is only 12 seconds more. It may not be worthwhile to download both of these. The details and songs:

the earliest album i have is panghat[1943];which has already been uploaded by faizel bhai,a couple of months back.so won't ul it again ,unless requested.

Dear Parag sir,

I feel really embarrassed and ashamed that I didnt even listen to the songs before posting them here! At the same time, I'm very grateful to you for pointing out to me my (grievous) mistake....
Actually, I was a slightly afraid before posting these songs here, for I was a little apprehensive about their sound quality....having recieved these songs from a friend, almost a week after requesting for hem, I couldnt really complain! But I should have atleast listened to them, carefully before posting them here.
Forgiveness sought from all the members who have already downloaded it....

I shall correct the file and post it again, but I havnt heard the full version of the song.....could anyone please upload the complete song for us?

Lal Qilla (1960)

Here is a beautiful album form Tripathiji. Very very beautiful songs indeed. Especially the solos by Rafi Saab. More especially, those written by Bahadur Shah Zafar. So much soul in those songs that you move to tears.

The source of songs is CD and tape. The quality overall is very good to excellent. Only one song, "Dhim Tak" has problem of pauses couple of places; at 41 seconds and at 1 min 24 seconds. Each pause is about 2 to 3 seconds long.

This is one of my alltime favorite duets, and the No. 1 favorite of Asha and Mukesh duets. Dev Kanya is supposed to have some 14 songs. If the members can come forward with these songs that will be great.

2. "Bheegi Bheegi Mehki Mehki Raat Hai" - Do Aadmi (1960); Geeta; Duration 3:10

3. "Nazar Ko Sambhalo" - Cobra Girl (1963); Suman-Mukesh; Duration 3:24; Lyrics by Prem Dhawan

4. "Loot Liya Re Jiya" - Jaadoo Nagari (1961); Asha; Duration 3:22; Lyricist Hasrat Jaipuri

Here are a couple of songs from "Hatimtai". I am also including an extended version of the "Parwardigaar" song that is by the courtesy of the Forum members. You may find it interesting to note that Tripathiji, who provided countless songs in classical mode, uses western instruments in composing the song "Jhoomti Hai Nazar Jhoomta Hai Pyar". But the result is the same. Very beautiful duet by Ashaji and Rafi Saab.

Thanks Mahesh Bhai for the full album of Shri Ganesh Mahima, was missing some songs.

You are absolutely right Mahesh Bhai, taron ke palne mein is 100% not Geeta Ji, the film version uploaded as I felt its Meena Kapoor and also confirmed by rare collectors that it is Meena Kapoor, incidentally happens to have lot of resemblance to Geeta ji's voice.
We all know how HMV messed up with wrong info for Sujata(1959) song.

Bhojpuri Film - Bidesia (1963)

I have come across some songs of a Bhojpuri film "Bidesia (1963)" the music of which was composed by Tripathiji. I don't understand Bhojpuri, but beautiful music has no language barrier. These songs are definitely beautifully melodious.

as a tribute to geetaji,whose 36th death anniversary just passed yesterday;here are two very rare geeta-mahendra kapoor duets from bhojpuri film jogin which was made sometimes in mid or late sixties.the songs were originally uploaded by aly sahab[alybaba].here are the details-

Dear Parag sir,

I feel really embarrassed and ashamed that I didnt even listen to the songs before posting them here! At the same time, I'm very grateful to you for pointing out to me my (grievous) mistake....
Actually, I was a slightly afraid before posting these songs here, for I was a little apprehensive about their sound quality....having recieved these songs from a friend, almost a week after requesting for hem, I couldnt really complain! But I should have atleast listened to them, carefully before posting them here.
Forgiveness sought from all the members who have already downloaded it....

I shall correct the file and post it again, but I havnt heard the full version of the song.....could anyone please upload the complete song for us?
