My new equation for age of the infant galaxy:
t + 800 million years = T - 13 billion years !
t = instant of Big Bang
T = present "earth time"
Nobel prize anyone ?

Nice link Shivani. It says this young galaxy is more massive than our age-old milky way. An established observation is it that older galaxies should be heavier ? Cant galaxies lose mass into inter-galactic space with time, and so older ones be lighter than heavier ones ?

Interesting thing, this...

Why should the 'baby' be 'overweight'?

Perhaps a time will come (or - in this case - has already gone by) when astronomers will consider the possibility that they might just be looking at a couple of galaxies stacked extremely close - a 'twin', so to say...

From a distance, they will give the appearance of a single 'heavy' galaxy. Spectrographs and red-shift analyses also won't show the difference as they are just too close...

There are still far too many unknowns 'out there'...

Why are galaxies formed when stars begin to 'cluster' together? Why do stars start clustering? And why do they stop from each other at a distance? Do they get embedded in a dark-matter matrix?

It is impossible to discount this 'dark matter'. This is the thing that 'balances' the bright matter in the universe. There isn't emptiness between stars/galaxies. There is a clearly tangible fabric of dark matter.

If one starts studying the various nebulae, one finds strands, layers or trails of dark matter drifting through the nebulae, thereby giving them strangely familiar shapes - so that astronomers can name those objects accordingly...

MJ.. u r such a meanie..
but then what you are saying can be a possibility. afterall they have not been able to "SEE" it clearly and the imprints could be from more than one galaxy.
And can you please post some more info/link on how dark matter helps form different shapes?

Woh kya hai M-ji, main aaj-kal gaanon ke games mein itna busy hoon ki kya bataoon Aur oopar se ek exam aur term paper bhi due hai ..so not in a mood for heavy duty stuff

Aur aapse jab bhi baat-cheet hoti hai..aap kuchh na kuchh profound heavy duty physics ya philosophy pakda dete hain ....phir usiko lekar baitha rehta hoon .... sar dard karne lagta hai..... raaton ko neend nahin aati... so many problems er.... did I indirectly imply ki aapse sampark meri sehat ke liye haani-kaarak hai ?

aur phir aap bhi to kuchh dinon mein free-er ho jaayenge ...khoob jamegi tab jab mil baithenge deewaane teen... aap, hum aur...... *hic*

Nimmz kya bol rahe ho.. visu is looking fr a girl?? isnt he supposed to look for a job first? and have enough money in his account ? and a car? anc a house ? and pick up some good habits like cooking cleaning mending & tending? (well list is long but I would stop here for now)
