Veturi Sundararama Murthy is indeed a prolific and popular film lyricist. Known for his punctuality and discipline, the lyricist is the first one who wrote for masses as well as classes and excelled in both. He worked for nearly Two thousand films which in itself is a feat unparalleled. It is estimated that he wrote around Ten thousand songs. His last works are for the film Villain which is the remake of Raavan of Maniratnam. K.Viswanath, the well known director of masterpieces like Sankarabharanam ( Sur Sangam ), Saptapadi ( jaag utha insaan), Sagara sangamam, Swati Muthyam ( Eswar ) is a patron of Veturi. All his films are adorned by the lyrical prowess of Veturi... Recipient of Eight Nandi awards and a National Award ( for his song in Matru devobhava ), he is known to be very supportive of the younger lyricists.. Here is the link for the song for which he has won the National Award......sung and set to music by MM Keeravani better known to hindi film goers as MM Kreem... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_vXMe-PINA...=watch_response Translated the telugu lyrics ( first stanza) as best as i could.... May his soul rest in peace !! Oh flower you are going to wither...why do you need raaga ? the gardener is not accompanying you... Oh Dusk why do you need colours ? The world has become dark longback.. This is a never ending night for you.. Parrot dont sing yesterday's tune.. I am not much familiar with many songs of Veturi Gaaru. But those I heard of from Vishwanath's movies, his genius was never in question or doubt. 10,000 plus songs is such a phenomenally staggering feat. I thought Anand Bakshi who wrote nearly 3,000 songs was something to write about. But 10,000 songs, eight Nandi awards, and a National Award, well what more testimonials whoever needs to recognize that here was an awsome talent. A great loss for Telugu film fans for sure.
May Veturi Gaari soul rest in peace. Swarapriya |
