In 1980, I was in the Nanavati Hospital in Vile Parle Mumbai, nursing a kidney stone.

AB was in the room next to me. Once at night when I could not sleep due to pain, I walked over to him and he actually read me a song that he was to publish soon for a movie to be declared. The pain was so much but the patient comfort he gave me despite being such a big man was unbelievable, of course I don't remember the song...I am still vincing at the pain as I write.

I was not particularly a great fan of his newer songs...but some of his older songs were absolutely mind blowing. The best in my memory is the "Mere dushman tu meri dosti ko tarse"
