Ok forget the Question " Which version would you rather see again? " ... just in acting who do u
Think could express the "Devdas" Character in a realistic way ? U may not like the Story , Songs .. But think "Devdas" is a "hypothetical Character" then when it comes to acting who do u think could Ever did a brilliant performance ? From 1928 to 2002 ? ... don't look at any other shining thing Jo Milte hain, voh nahi milte
Aur Jo Nahi Milte, Vohin Vaastav mein milte hai Kaaran jo hai, voh nahi hai Aur jo nahi hai, vohin hai. Ye keval Shabdo ki heraa-pheri nahi hai Aur heraa-pheri hain bhi Yehin Darshan hai Aur isi hone naa hone, milne naa milne ke beech mein maayaa kaa samudra hai |

IMHO, Big B( in his younger years:-) was suited for Devdas role vs Shah Rukh Khan! I would have picked Rekha and Rakhee to be his "girl Friends":-) Wat a lucky guy.....I would love to have this problem I love Saigal Saab too....he was class by himself - even though he can't act

10 Reasons to Watch Devdas (1956) 1. Its a Bimal Roy Film 2. Dilip Kumar's Acting 3. Camerawork 4. Suchitra Sen's beauty 5. Vaijayantimala's Dances 6. Motlilal's acting 7. For the song Mitwa.... and folk melodies of Bengal(baul?).. 8. Burman da's mix bag of average, good and classic songs and Salil da's BGM 9. Guest appearances of Johny Walker, Pran and Mehmood... (Trivial reasons) 10. After all its Devdaas.. a classic novel by Sharatchandra... why not... Give it a try guys.. you wont be disappointed... Pavan Jha Hrishikesh Mukherjee's editing... I've seen both - The Dilip Kumar one and the new one. Although I like Dilip Kumar, I must say the old is sooo slow its such a drag that it becomes almost unwatchable. You'd better see paint dry. The new one atleast moves fast and there is something happening all the time
but then thats my opinion [i]Armaan tha gulsan pur barsoon, kisi shookh ke dama pur barsoon, afsoos ke kismet ne meri mujhe kha pur le mara

Which version of the movie, Devdas would you rather see again? hey pradeep, although both the k.l. saigal & dilip kumar versions are considered master pieces- my vote would go to the the 1956 version of dilip kumar. my main reasons are: a) the movie has big exceptional star names & yet they are perfectly cast. bimal roys direction is next to perfection, infact his arguably the greatest director ever- his awards & a claims would prove that. c) both the music & lyrics were simply amazing. p.s. i think the shah rukh khan version is nothing more than a commercial stunt in every way possible. very disappointing effort but the very very talented sanjay leela bhansali. Tumse milkar na jane kyon aur bhi kuch yaad aata hai...

Incidentally, the four versions of Devdas also represent the changing trends in the direction, music, and acting in Hindi film history. Sanjay Bhansali's Devdas is in keeping with the life in fast lanes of 21st century even for a Devdas. I did like K. L. Saigal and Jamuna's version with its cute innocence. The Bimal Roy version offered us the Devdas as he should have been offered. On every count, music, direction, and performances, it turned out to be perfect. Possibly, in the b/w set up it seems more appealing. Colour might have marred its pathos.
