The solar cycle
Sun follows a relatively predictable 11-year cycle of solar activity. During the solar minimum, there's very little activity, and only a handful of sunspots. During the solar maximum, there can be frequent and powerful coronal mass ejections and X-ray flares.

Lovely pix, Noorie! Identification please smile1.gif Some of them have been repeated, like M45 or the Beehive Cluster in the constellation of Cancer, or the moon shots.
It would be nice if you put the names next to each pic...

Posted by: kabir Jun 27 2007, 01:05 PM

just great..!!

I agree Mandrake, and I am really sorry about it. But I've gone back and rectified it.

As 4 identifying the pictures, I am working on that.

Don't be sorry Noorie smile1.gif. It happens to all of us.
Let me start with a bit of (educated) guesswork:
1. Earth
2. a nebula (pls name it)
3. a nebula (name again)
4. Venus?
5. The Beehive cluster in Cancer
6. Saturn's rings and Titan (?)
7. a nebula (Butterfly?)
8. A nebula (Orion?)
9. A galaxy (Andromeda?)
10. Pyramids of Giza?
11. Arcturus in the southern sky
12. Solar Eclipse (false image - digitally produced)
13. Megrez in the Ursa Major
14. Horsehead nebula?
15. ?
16. ?
17. Artist's image of Sedna?
18. Spiral galaxy in Ursa major?
19. Milky way
20. moon
21. phases of moon
22. A-rings of saturn and one moon (Titan again?)
23. Supernova?
24. The terminator line on the moon
25. repeats

ohmy.gif You sound like a cosmologist, are you one ? huh.gif I am just an amateur at this. But it is such a magical world out there, I just had 2 take a curious peek. tongue1.gif

Thanks so much 4 helping me out Mandrake. I was in such a hurry the other day that I messed it all up; and although I've identified several of the pictures, it's not possible 2 do that 4 all of them in the same post.
I am so sorry.

The other option is to re-upload them again in a new post along with the tags, which is quite a bother; I think I've learnt a very good lesson 2day. sad.gif

To make up 4 that somewhat, I've added a few new pictures along with the old post, this time with info tags.
And there are still a few more left, I'll try 2 upload those maybe today; but never 2gether and in a bunch!! wacko.gif That's what got me into this trouble! sad.gif

Lol...cosmologist is a big word biggrin.gif. I am just a trained astronomer, though an amateur one.
For all queries that you might have about the sky and related stuff, be my guest. I'd be very very happy to answer questions on that. thumbs-up.gif

P.S. Cud you please try not to be so very modest? tongue1.gif The word "trained" is enough to give the game away. smile.gif

Plasma is known as the 4th state of matter. It is, in simple words defined as a highly ionized gaseous state. And the dust isn't the one found on earth. This one is known as Cosmic dust which is made up of very fine particles that can be found in virtually any part of the universe.
