Imrat Khan was a great musician in his own right. He is the younger brother of the brilliant Ustad Vilayat Khan. He was frequently overshadowed by his brother. He took up the less popular Surbahar as his instrument and now his name is synonymous with that instrument. He belongs to the Imdadikhan gharana later renamed as Etawah gharana. His father, Inayat Khan died when Imrat Khan was but 3 yrs old. He learned music under the tutelage of his older brother and his uncle Ustad Waheed Khan. He taught at Washington University for many years. He usually starts his concerts with Surbahar for Alap and moves to the Sitar for the Gat and Jhala parts.
This posting contains his CD "Legendary Legacy."
