The 15th Gem of Shamshad Begum

Dear Mr Binod,

When someone like you, a man who lives by music (and possibly food), takes the trouble of visiting a smal thread like this one, it certainly is time for great rejoicing!

The only way to show our happiness is to upload some more gems of Shamshad Begum. I will now do exactly that...

SuDeo

SuDeo:

Just call me Binod. No "Mr", "Ji" or even "Jee." Thanks for your kind words. But I do not deserve such accolades. I am only an old man trying to appreciate some good music, especially that which has been un- or under-appreciated. In the process I am trying to learn something new through exploration and discovery.

My kids have taught me recently to love the "innocent mischief" or the "mischievous innocence" captured by Shamshad Begum's voice. I am beginning to be addicted by the infectious charm in her singing style. No wonder OP Nayyar had so much glowing praise for her voice. I think I've had too much of Lata already. I also like Suraiya, Geeta, Noor Jehan, and Sudha Malhotra.

Please continue your laudable efforts and propel us in the direction of this exciting journey. Thanks.

Binod.

धन्यबाद

Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die."

Dear Binod,

Thanks for your sparing your invaluable time for my small time thread. I am glad that you do loike these old playback singers who were in their prime in the 1940s and early 1950s. In the Suraiya and Noor Jehan threads also I have uploaded some nice songs. If even one of them is not in your present collection I will feel greatly elated!

And so your grandchildren have made aware of the entirely different quality of Shamshad Begum's voice! That is very amusing and interesting! These little ones must be a charming lot...
