Dear Friends
Today is the birthday of Living Legend, Shamshad Begum.
I wish her a very happy and healthy year ahead.
To commemorate her birthday, a small website, http://www.shamshadbegum.com has been launched.
Information on the reclusive singer is difficult to get. I hope that with the help of all fans like you, It shall become a ready reference for all fans.
Request all inclined towards contributing to the site to please get in touch with me via the site contact page.
With more hands joining in, we can take this small beginning much further.
At present it has some articles, pictures and over 300 of Shamshad songs available for listening online.

As part of the celebrations, on Hamaraforums' shoutcast radio, a special program on her songs shall be telecast from 10 pm to 11 pm (IST). All are invited to tune in to the program by opening the following link in a shoutcast compatible player like vlc/mplayer:-

I would like to thank all music lovers on rmim, HF and Saat Sur among others who have encouraged me at all times by providing help, and guidance . In particular, I'd like to thank Pradeep for providing the webspace and domain.

After launching a website on madam NJ, we are seeing this promising website dedicated to one of the few living legends we still have with us. Wishing a very long and healthy life to Shamshad ji. Hildebrand deserves a standing ovation and a big round of applause for his untiring efforts in making, maintaining and enriching these websites dedicated to legendary artists.

HB...it is heartening to see that you have started the website on Shamshad Ji. I respect her a lot not just as singer but the elegance with which she conducted herself through out her career.
I would be glad to be service in what ever capacity i can....where else can i get an opportunity to pay something in return for the happiness her songs endows on my life ?

Thanks for the best wishes Parag.
It is just a small token of my appreciation to these artists who have given me lots of happiness and encouragement in my most loneliest hours.
I request all desirous of contributing to please join in this task.
A few articles are there but we could use so many more.

Thanks r&d for pointing it out.
The article had a couple of other errors also. While correcting, I somehow missed doing it even though I had noticed it earlier.

Thanks for the information. Shamshad Begum has been one of the major voices in Hindi Film Music. Her Punjabi film songs in the fifties were in a class by themselves. Harjinder

Her punjabi songs are really a listener's delight which somehow haven't got that much publicity.

There are three other solos by Shamshad Begum in this movie.

- chupchaap chala jaa door
- dikhla ke jhalak bas ek nazar chale gaye
- do din ki zindagi mein ek baar muskuraalo

and two duets with G. M. Durrani
- lala rookh lala rookh wai lau disha
- o cyclewaale baabu


Interesting that the song that uploaded ends with Mohammed Rafi
singing "Do din ki zindagi mein ek baar" then it cuts off.
so it either a solo or duet.

Do you have those songs r&d? Do upload them.

This song is very much a solo.
Do din ki zindagi mein is the starting of the trio of shamashad, rafi and durrani saahab from the same movie, Do Din Ki Zindagi Hai, Ek Baar Muskura Lo.
Probably, the solo was followed by this trio on the tape it was ripped from.
I'll start a separate thread for the movie's songs.
