hello guys, i just wanted to start this thread dedicating it to the Bhangra Maestro's of the 80's especially the Uk bands such as Alaap, Heera, Premi, im sure this will appeal to the UK crowd more than anyone else.

ill start off with Alaap's Most Famous
( i wouldnt advise to download this if u are on the first or second floor of a building, as you are likely to go straight thru the floorboards after listening to this)

Another excellent thread initiated. Will join in tomorrow. There's no bhangra like old school bhangra and many in the US and Canada would agree b/c UK bhangra was a hot, yet rare commodity here in the early 80s. I payed 6 dollars for my first bhangra cassette back then - Diamonds from Heera and had to travel all the way to Canada to get my hands on it, lol. And even then I had to search 10 shops before I could find it in stock, and we listened to it all the way back in the long car drive except for Vakhian Tau Tang Kurti, somehow my father didnt' approve and we had to skip that track. tongue1.gif

marta hai koi to mar jaaye by Lata, sher tha

jo hum ko nasihat karte hain apna zamana dekh chuke hain
jawani hum pe bhi aayi hai, hum apna zamana kyon chodein,

DK.. just amazing, thank you for starting this one.

Guys I forget but long ago I had got a tape recorded, not sure if it was Heera or some other group. One Punjabi song in that tape had rock touch in it.
All I can remember now is, song had "sau sau lare laana tu… Aashiq nu tarpana tu"

DKji, bapu nu pooch ke thappar khaana si?

Marci, that part of the song is running thru my head and it's killing me cause I know that song, if I figure it out, will share.

Wanted to share this link I found a few months back, had some nice vinyl scans, cassette scan, bits of early UK Bhangra history centering around one of producers K S Bhamrah. Among the collection is a scan of Chirag Pehchan's Rail Gaddi album, the bhangra staple discussed above. I've the cassette somewhere....

http://www.salidaa.org.uk/salidaa/site/Col...;mode=catalogue

Will be back later to share some files.
