I am uploading one of my father's hits. I received this from the Late Mr. Amarjeet Anand. My thanks to him. I would appreciate a better resolution copy. If someone has it please upload.
I will be putting up some of the collection I have on the forum and hope all of you will contribute with uploading of missing songs and correct any errrors etc. All songs of the movie are welcome even if they were not sung by my father. I will be setting up an archive for these at a latter date on his web site. If someone can direct me to a copy of the actual movie on VHS or DVD that would be the ultimate! Best wishes, Ashwin Batish 1. You should be looking for DASSI, the mis-spelt name on publicity posters and 78rpms. In Urdu it was DAASI. Najam was a MALE, actually hero of the movie. His full name was Najam-ul-Hasan. The female singer was no doubt Zeenat Begum but one song 'jaao sajan harjaii, balam mohe chh.Do na' was sung by Shamshad Begum. I have not heard 'ghar baar ujaaDaa'. If the song is really from this movie and if anybody has it, please share. urzung khan |

Urzung Sahab. Aap Kaa Bahut Shukriyaa. I did find it listed in an Indian online catalog at
http://musicandmovies.emallroad.com/produc...roducts_id/2877 They state that they will only ship in India. I have sent an email asking about their address to see if it can be picked up personally. The cost is listed as Rs. 99 Regards, Ashiwn Batish Here are the words I found on a web site for this song. Contributors name are as credited. Bravo Pradeepji This is a home run! Thank you.
First time I got to hear all the songs from this film. Also, to my pleasant surprise the film track for "Khamosh Nigahen" is refreshingly different. Looks like my father recorded this song twice one for the film version and the other for the record. I will ask him about this and also if this (recording double versions) was regular policy for that time in the filmy era. I am still interested in getting a hold of the VCD so I can get better resolution copies. The one of Surjeetji's site were 20k. As you might have observed, Dr. Surjit Singh has uploaded songs from many rare movies on his websites. Yes he posts them at 16 K but given the fact that many of the movies are from 30s and 40s, so rare that one has to be grateful to him for providing us those rare songs. Since he is based in US, he is one good source for VCDs of rare movies. Regarding two different versions, all the songs in those days were recorded separately for the movie version and the record version. In fact many times the singer for the record used to be different from the one who sang for the movie version. Which is why the two versions, including their orchestra, would be quite different. Since songs uploaded by Dr. Singh are invariably from VCDs, and therefore movie versions; you will find the record versions different for all the songs from 30's and 40's and to a greater extent, even 50s. Please convey my regards to Shri S.D. Batish. Pradeep Pradeep |

My father sends his kind regards back to you. Here is what he told me re. the 2 different versions. I thought it was quite facinating.
The director Mr. Bose had my father come especially to the screening and record the 2nd version which he did by self accompanying himself with a harmonium. You will notice the rest of the orchestra is much lower. He was allowed to adlib variations and song start / stops according to how he felt the movie scene demanded. He is unsure but thinks it is Pandit Amarnath that accompanied him on the tabla. He credits Pandit Amarnathji with a great gift for the tabla. I asked him if this was the case with the Zeenat songs etc, and he said that, as far as he can remember, "Khamosh Nigahen" was the only song in the movie that they did the live double version on.
