The Three Reigining Queens
One was a beauty queen. Madhubala was her screen name. The other was a tragedy queen. She was known as Meena Kumari to the movie fans. The third one was a romantic queen. She was known as Nargis. All three more or less came into the movie field just about the same time. All of them started as child artistes. They shaped the industry with their charismatic personalities. They showed how to smile, how to bear pain, and how to fall in love. Their personal lives were marred with tragedies. They died very young. They set aside thier own problems to entertain us in their own inimitable way. They ruled the Hindi film world for nearly three decades, each in her own way. In the next few months we will take a look at the songs from their albums more closely. This post has been edited by swarapriya: Mar 28 2010, 10:26 PM Attached image(s) |

Nai Roshni (1941) - Sardar Akhtar, Meena Kumari, Harish & Agha - Music: Anil Biswas This film had a beautiful Zeenat Begum song Dard e Dil Dil Mein Basaya Jaaye Gaa....unfortunately I only have a low b/r of this song. I hope some one can upload the entire album. The other Anil Biswas album you mention, Garib had a couple of Surendranath songs. Nothing to write home about. Kind Regards Faraaj Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W. H. Auden |

Dear SP,
I have been away from the forum for almost a fortnight, except for an occasional visit, when I could not resist the urge. Today, I found time to read all the five pages. You have created havoc, if I may say so, by setting the Ganges on fire, as it were. It is an absolute riot of a thread concentrating on the films of two great ladies whom I greatly admire & another (Madhubala), who I simply, adore. It requires enormous amount of courage combined with hard work to start another awesomely ambitious thread when the 'Muse & Music' is going great guns. I am absolutely sure that your research would be meticulous and top-notch and you will pull it off in great style. I doff my hat (imaginary, of course) in admiration for the choice of the topic. With best wishes for the thread and looking forward to great times ahead, Suresh This post has been edited by madsur: Aug 16 2009, 05:55 AM |
