Shailendra wrote fiery lyrics for the freedom movement (as is mentioned in many write-ups about him), however his film lyrics seem more toned down, more philosophical. Does anyone have his non-filmi lyrics?
In this song, the lyrics are more searing than usual: Patthar ko tum sheesh naho Aur insaan ko thukrao Kaisa hai ye nyay thumara Kuch humko bhi sumjhao Kaun dharam ye kaisa gyan A couple of corrections, Rajnish, "Kaisa hai ye nyay tumhara" and "Raam ke gun bhi to apnao." The film seems to be about untouchability/caste barriers. Has anyone seen it? "This isn't right, this isn't even wrong." Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) "There are no facts, only interpretations." Thanks for the correction. I just made a wild guess on Nyay.
The lyric that stands out for me is "Duniya bhar ke dost bane Ghar mein bhai ke ho na sake" Would you know the meaning of Shabdi and Kavet, I looked it in the online dictionary didn't find. better yet what is the context of their usage in the song. I only have one. Chacha Nehru .. Phool Khilega Bagon - Mukesh - Non-Film Geet I did quick google and found following... Have to ask for them to be uploaded. Meri Pyari Janma Bhoomi - Manna Dey - Non-Film Geet - Kanu Ghosh - Shailendra Ye Jung Jung Hai - Manna Dey - Non-film Geet - Kanu Ghosh - Shailendra Is Baar Ladai Laane Wala - Manna Dey - Non-film Geet - Kanu Ghosh - Shailendra Aman Ka Sipahi Mera Desh - Manna Dey - Non-film Geet - Kanu Ghosh - Shailendra Some unreleased Hindi songs could be the following two from the unreleased film, Suhaana Geet ( lyrics by Shailendra ) 3) Bolo Kemon Kore Je Jomlo (Non-Film) - Are Kidhar Chale Ho Aaj 4) Aaj Ghore Deep Jole (Non-Film) - Deep Jale Deep Bujhe |

Those were the two words I was going to ask you about! Will try and look around some more for the meaning. Is his poem, "Jalta hai Punjab" available anywhere?

There is no book of poetry on Shailendra. The is no website. May be his kids have it. This article also talks about Teesri Kasam qawwali that was edited out which his son has it in tape. http://www.screenindia.com/old/fullstory.php?content_id=4353 interesting that illegal DVD is still in market. |

Kevat - person who rows the boat - Mallah Sabdi - Actually it is - Shabri (name of lady belonging to Bheel caste . Mallah & Bheel belongs to untouchable caste catagory. Ram had ineracted with both of them & instructed to society (by accepting them) to include these out caste in the society. Kevat had rowed the boat while Ram crossed Ganga on his boat, during his journey towards jungle. Shabri was living near Sharbhang Rishi Ashram in Kishkinddha (somewhere in Karnatka) . Before death, Sharbhang Rishi told her that Ram will definately do something so that your caste will be accepted by Society. She was waiting for him... USRji,
Thank you for the clarification. It makes perfect sense now. "This isn't right, this isn't even wrong." Wolfgang Pauli (1900-1958) "There are no facts, only interpretations." Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900) |
