Legendary singer Shamshad Begum passes away

Shamshad Begum was one of the legends of the Indian film industry. The 94-year-old singer who had the distinction of being one of the first playback singers of Bollywood passed away in Mumbai. She is survived by her daughter Usha Ratra.
Shamshad Begum rose to fame when she lent her voice to some golden numbers such as 'Mere Piya Gaye Rangoon', 'Kabhi Aar Kabhi Paar' and 'Kajra Mohabbat Wala'. She earned Rs15 (Around Dh1) per song.
Begum was born in Amritsar, Punjab on April 14, 1919. She was a big fan of KL Saigal and watched the film 'Devdas' 14 times
