"No Country for old Men" ... a brilliantly gripping stark film. The action is taut and the characters and scenes very carefully etched with great detail as is typical of the Coen brothers. And in the middle of it all, is Tommy Lee Jones with his tired voice commenting on the action and reacting to it... he is quite brilliant in the movie. Though the movie is based on Mc Carthy's novel, the voice of Tommy Lee Jones reminded me of the Yeatsian lines "That is no country for old men/the young in one another's arms, birds in the trees..." Yeats as the old man feels distanced from the young and their celebration of life. In the movie Tommy Lee Jones, an old WWII vet, finds himself a misfit in the sheer annihilation of life erupting around him. The Coen brothers like these elaborate labyrinthine references in their movies, I would not be surprised if they intended the title to have the dual resonance. Don't know how the book has used it, makes me want to read the book.

Dil Kabaddi,
Heavens! Did not know it was a straight lift from Husbands and Wives... thought I had made one heck of a drastic discovery, only to find out that it a fairly well known fact... maybe they acknowledged it in the beginning or something and I missed it. Good actors, new kind of a film but Rahul Bose as Woody Allen? Come on! Irfan Khan was pretty good. Wasted effort though, a Woody Allen film, is just that, a Woody Allen film. Saw Billu Barber. Another interesting comedy about a north Indian village after Sajjanpur. Sajjanpur was darker and had vignettes of the entire village, whereas this one is more focused on Billu and his family. Absolutely loved Irfan Khan in it. Some lovely scenes involving Billu and his family that you almost don't notice and yet not quite. I think this is the second movie of Lara Dutta that I have seen and for some reason her face sticks in my memory. Om Puri was good too as the local dada, did not ham it too much. He has been working in a lot of comedies lately, and not particularly good ones.
Buddha Mar Gaya: So bad that I sat and watched it right through. Quite raunchy, and vulgar, it declares itself as a black comedy, and literally lives up to it. If you have to see Om Puri hamming it, this is the one. Anupam Kher is pretty good as a dead corpse with the same smile on his face throughout the movie. Yet there is something in the movie that I cannot quite put my finger on, that holds you horrified to your seat. A cynicism about human nature pervades the movie without any redeeming features. While watching the film, found it quite bad, but the humor in the film(even the bawdy ones) strike you even more strongly when you think back upon them. Don't know if I can recommend it to people...I watch Rahul Rawail's films because he has made films like Love Story, Betaab, Arjun and Dacait. I have lost count of the number of bad films he has made ofc (Anjaam, heading the list) A Wednesday : slick and interesting. Naseer adds quality to most films. I saw the old movie Blackmail again the other day - Dharmendra-Rakhee starrer - movie was nothing great, BUT that song - Pal pal dilke paas..... *sigh* both the song and the picturisation is simply GREAT ! I can watch / listen to that song for ever - even other couple of songs by Lata are great and melodious.

3-IDIOTS Nice inspirational story and well directed - little too long coz of the avoidable songs. 4/5 some of the songs are really good though. I can listen to Give me some sunshine all day! zooby dooby is fairly hummable. others could have been removed. its entertaining no doubt but its not great cinema. A masala movie at its core with some pravachan to share. But something artificial about it which was not so with the munna bhai series. Best Regards

Hottie and the Nottie -> 2.0/5.0
A time pass movie with an oft-repeated bollywood love theme - boy pursues girl (the beautiful hottie) and finally falls for her best friend (the ugly Nottie)! Paris Hilton was supposed to be the main attraction of the movie but didn't do well due to various reasons. Best Regards

I just watched Paa. From the story point of view, it has a razor thin plot - what i call a theme based movie. The theme mixes progeria with modern relationships. Abhishek and Vidya's characters fall in love in college and Vidya gets pregnant. Abhishek is not ready wanting to become a politician like his father and Vidya gets out of the way. The kid born to them has progeria - a disease in which the person gets old extremely fast. The Kid Auro (played by Amitabh) grows up to be a 12 year old (whose body is 70+ due to the degenerative disease). And one day his paths cross with his father's. The rest of the story is as predictable as it gets. His parents get back together and he of course has to die because, well, he has this disease.
What goes for the movie is the witty dialogues and the scenes + presentation of it. A time pass movie which can be watched once. Rating: 2.25/5 Best Regards

4/5 - beautiful film and excellent acting by SRK. Saw it 3 times already ------------------------ Karthik Calling Karthik 2/5 - expected a real 'thriller', but was disappointed at the result. - one-time watch - no repeat value Don't let someone become a priority in your life,
