R&D.. again, thanks for the suggestions.
Actually i reinstalled the OS..which solved the problem, albeit in a crude way. It is like giving a steroids for simple sprain. Never had this kind of problem before... After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

that is a way of life...errors ! we just learn to live with them...teaches tolerance ..may be Bill should be made the Guru of modern living. first Bill steals from all the world by selling crappy software then convinces the world that he is great philanthropist just to keep all that gain from government. If that is not modern Guru then no one is. not even Deepak Chopra can do any better even though he tries real hard. but don't worry Windows 7 will save your soul once and for all. |

I thought, some fonts were unreadable and nothing else. I was thinking on the same lines as R&D; ie, a few fonts got corrupt. But, I haven't used windows for so long; didn't feel like posting. If everything is solved, a short summary of the initial problem and the final fix would benefit future readers. Exon |

Just happened to browse by this section of the forum.
R&D is correct -- the below (font file method) is what should have likely fixed the problem. Sometimes, say if you visit a website with say Devnagri or Bengali or Marathi or whatever font that your computer might not recognize...get the respective font file and it works. Sometimes, with PDF documents even (say with complex equations if it like an engineering e-book or something) -- you will not have all characters displayed properly -- same thing -- get font file (Adobe gives you error message of what font file is missing) and it works. Lastly, I think ALL font files are either in Windows folder or System32 folder -- can't remember. Thankyou R&D..for your kind suggestions. i tried everything..last good configuration start..restore to another date..etc.But surprisingly none worked...one of those vagaries of OS..i think. I use Firefox...somehow never liked IE. may be the font file is corrupt. get the font directory from some else with same os. backup and replace the font directory. you can also do checksum on the font files and compare with the good filesystem. Did you try another font for the system font to see if that helps like the Ariel. - Music Has No Language -
