Mr. India (1987) had a few songs by Guru....Kaate Nahin Katate...Karte Hain Pyar Mr. India Se....and, Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai....
According to VN's book, there is a slower version in Guru's voice of the song Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai, which starts with Khelte Khelte Ek Titli.... I have the video of this movie and this slower version is actually sung by, i think, Shabbir Kumar..... So whats the truth?....Is VN wrong in mentioning this as Guru's song (his book is otherwise very accurate)??? Or is it that it was later dubbed in Shabbir's voice since Guru would not have been alive for any rerecording, if done??? Can someone throw some light on it? eskayes

In the film, Shabbir Kumar did sing the song starting with "khelte khelte ek titli na jaane kahan kho gaye" (if you watched the movie, it's the funeral of that girl who dies in the amusement park bomb blast). From what I heard here, Guru did sing the same sad version, but it was not placed in the film. Guru would still be alive to record because Guru died in October of 1987, while the film was released on May 1987. Therefore, the songs must have been recorded a year earlier. I think for a film to have all those special effects, it would have at least taken them a year. |

Thanks Raga_tala for the insight into it...yes, you are right that songs would generally get recorded almost a year ahead of the release of the movie.... So, Guru did sing this song....i am little perplexed as to why LP would have preferred to keep Shabbir's slow version instead of Guru's...or it must have been the producer/Director who decided....whoever....perplexed not because i have anything against Shabbir...but Kishore perhaps was greatest at singing the slower ones....his pristine clear voice in hushed tone would just grip a listener with the emotions of the situation like none other....LP themselves have had Guru sing slower ones so often....anyways, strange are the ways sometimes.... I would to love hear Guru's version of the slow version of this song...Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai (Slow).....can someone upload this one please? eskayes

Comparison??? Kishoreda with Shabbir Kumar?? With all due respect to Shabbir Kumar's talent, but I dont think any singer can ever be compared with Kishoreda's expression in any song.. Just my opinion.. Only THIS MOMENT is in my hand and I just want to live that Perfectly!!! |

You are right about the difference of "Yun" and "Hai"....would this difference in lyrics be the cause for re-recording?...and may be Guru was n't available for re-recording at that time, when it was done... Infact Shabbir has sung it well too...but one could easily notice the difference in clarity and diction of Guru besides resonating manner in which his voice just grips the listener... eskayes

Hey I have no idea why u say that because I remember when I saw this movie... In the movie I heard this version sung by Kishoreda only... I NEVER knew that it was ever sung by Shabbir Kumar... So that explains it now....intially Guru's voice would have been in the movie, when released....later it was dubbed by Shabbir and re-released in the movie...may be some prints still have Guru's voice.... Strange thing is that VN has not made any qualifying remarks against this version of the song implying this was always supposed to be only Guru's song....i was myself surprised when i listened to it in the video....what i have uploaded is from the video of the movie....and i was even more surprised because male songs in the movie have been sung by Guru...so why a small clip by another singer.... As it seems to transpire, Shabbir's dubbed version was used later in the movie, perhaps after the death of Guru.....now the moot question is, why did LP not use Amit Kumar for this small piece...since his voice would have been closest to Guru.... eskayes

Yeah thats why we all (Whole Indian Film Music Industry) call him GURU... He was a definitely a KING.. Anyways.. I have seen many cases where Kishoreda's own voice was not used in the movie but the person who dubbed that song in the begining.. I remember they (music directors) use to get the songs recorded in new singer's voice then send the cassette to Kishoreda.. Then Kishoreda use to go to the studio and re-record the song in his own voice.. Only THIS MOMENT is in my hand and I just want to live that Perfectly!!! |

Thanks guys for the two slow versions of Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai. I also have another slow version of the same song with a female voice, just wondering how many slow versions are there.
Azad Paana hai kahbi, kabhi kuchh paana hai, kabhi kuchh khona hai, yahan jo hona hai hoga wohi Yehi zindagi hai, yahan jiyein wohi log jo, saare gham bhulake aansuon mein muskurate hain |

Thanks guys for the two slow versions of Zindagi Ki Yehi Reet Hai. I also have another slow version of the same song with a female voice, just wondering how many slow versions are there. Thank you for the upload of Guru's version! Guru's version had much more clarity in it. Somebody posted earlier that the film may have had Guru's voice in it. In the re-released version they may have replaced it with Shabbir Kumar's voice. Reminds me of Maine Pyar Kiya, with the song "mere rang mein." In the DVD, they completely edited the interludes of the song to make it sound original rather than the famous "Countdown" version. Why they used Shabbir Kumar for the voice? My hypothesis is that they used his voice in the movie for the joke song "na maangu sona chandi, hum maange maafi didi, lo pakde hum kaan se" so they may as well use his voice in the movie. If I was the music director and if I couldn't use the "yun" version, then I certainly would have opted for Amit Kumar of Sudesh Bhosle. Actually, I might have ended up with using Nitin Mukesh!!! Regarding Azad's question, there are two slow versions: 1) Kavita Krishnamurthi with children chorus singing when Anil Kapoor was feeling sad that he failed and could not get food for the kids. Kavita K. was picturized on a little girl. 2) the sad version we discussed on this thread. Speaking of Mr. India, do you think Amit Kumar will end up singing on Mr. India 2? |
