Just like the singer Geeta Dutt, who passed away at a very young age of 41, the famous actress Madhubala left this world at a very young age of 36 odd years.

Madhubala (real name Mumtaz) acted in films from as early as 1942 (as a child artist) till her untimely death. A few films like Jwala (1971) were released after her death.

Here are a few films where Geeta ji has sung songs for Madhubala :

Half Ticket (1962)
Passport (1961)
Mahalon ke Khwab (1960)
Baghi Sipahi (1958)
Police (1958)
Yahudi Ki Ladki (1957)

Mr. & Mrs. '55 (1955)
Armaan (1953)
Sangdil (1952)

Nishana (1950)
Paras (1949)
Sipahiya (1949)
Neel Kamal (1947)
Chittor Vijay (1947)
Dil-Ki-Rani (1947)
Mere Bhagwan (1947)

Dedicating this thread to the memory of the most beautiful actress to ever grace the Indian cinema.

I happened to see this film on DVD. Madhubala looks very young and is lacking the sweet charm she got by the time Mahal (1949) was released. The acting, the choreography and dialogues are all pretty lame. The only saving grace of the film is its music. Not sure what was the box office fate of this film when it was released (that too in the year when our country got the freedom).

A clear case of preferring the voice of Geeta ji for Madhubala. (Asha ji sings for the other actress Bela).

The year is 1960, Geeta ji is past her prime. The film is Mahalon ke Khwab. Composed by S S Mohinder.

Lovely song!

the other actress seems to be chanchal[madhubala's sister];who also acted in mother india as well as jis desh mein ganga behti hai.

Mahesh

Thanks for the correction. I went by the credits in the IMDB page. Bela is the name of the character and Chanchal is the name of the actress.

The IMDB page also says this:

It was during the shooting of this movie that Madhubala fainted and was diagnosed as having a congenital heart problem. Madhubala's sister, Chanchal, then stepped in place of Madhubala and completed some of the remaining scenes for the movie.

You mean Chanchal acted as body double for Madhubala!
She too was quite beautiful but got few chances.
