Here's a thought provoking forward I read recently...
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier: "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. "A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. "From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship. "The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence: 1. From bondage to spiritual faith 2. From spiritual faith to great courage 3. From courage to liberty 4. From liberty to abundance 5. From abundance to complacency 6. From complacency to apathy 7. From apathy to dependence 8. From dependence back into bondage Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W. H. Auden |

thought provoking - yes. Wonder if there is a prediction in this... What goes around comes around? ;-) Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water. - Albert Schweitzer Without music life would be a mistake - Friedrich Nietzsche Where words fail, music speaks - Hans Christian Anderson Music is spiritual. The music business is not - Van Morrison |

thought provoking - yes. Wonder if there is a prediction in this... What goes around comes around? ;-) That's the cycle of history. No nation can remain downtrodden or powerful forever. One can look at certain ancient Hindu empires like Vijayanagar with their prosperity and good governance and compare them to the same ethnic stock a few centuries later, enslaved by the British. The once proud British Empire on which the sun never set is now a second-rate power with mere pretensions to glory. Here is my take on where in the trajectory certain nations rest currently: 1. From bondage to spiritual faith 2. From spiritual faith to great courage Pakistan 3. From courage to liberty India 4. From liberty to abundance Israel 5. From abundance to complacency France 6. From complacency to apathy US 7. From apathy to dependence UK 8. From dependence back into bondage This post has been edited by Faraaj73: Nov 7 2009, 03:59 PM Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W.
