Hello HF Members
I'm looking - on behalf of my mother, who isn't cyber-space friendly! - for a song she heard several decades ago. She said the song is Dole Re Mann by Roshara Begum. I can find no reference to it anywhere on the internet. My father is now backing up her claim that it does (or did) exist. I sent a PM to a HF Member to try and get this song but no success. If any HFM out there can either assist by providing this song or a Sherlock can assist by conclusively proving it never existed, it would be much appreciated. Kind Regards Faraaj Kind Regards Faraaj Music expresses that which cannot be said and on which it is impossible to be silent. - Victor Hugo There is only one better thing than music - live music. - Jacek Bukowski I hate music, especially when it's played. - Jimmy Durante No good opera plot can be sensible, for people do not sing when they are feeling sensible. - W. H. Auden |

Kind Regards Faraaj Keep trying to find it. It does exists atleast in a 78rpm form. Termed as a geet, it was composed by Master Inayat Hussain. I have a vague remembrance that a classical piece by her using these bols was also recorded by her in the pre-partition days. |

Bilazzz, Pulkit and Urzung Saab
Thank you all for your interest....I just saw your replies today. I'll talk to my mother and try to get some more details of the song. Urzung Saab I live in Sydney and my parents in Islamabad - neither city is old, obscure music friendly. I could possibly find the 78 rpm in androon Lahore or Karachi, but Islamabad is not highly likely. The song is older than the city!!! Anyways, let me get some more details from my mother this afternoon.....and get back to you. Faraaj, I'm sorry to disappoint you but I do not have this song. I have heard it. It should not be difficult to find though, HMV released it on an LP in India. PTV also recorded a video of Roshanara Begum while singing the song and then there is a nice resung version by Tahira Syed as well. To help you trace it here are a few lines that I remember:
dole re man haule haule dole dole re man haule haule.... shabab ka hai zamana kahoon to kisse kahoon har ik din hai suhana kahoon to kisse kahoon main apne dil ki kahani sunaaoon to kisko main apne dil ka fasana kahoon to kisse kahoon saiyaan se kaju bole, saiyan jaanat dole re man........ |

[/quote] Urzung Saab Its funny you should mention F-8 because thats where my parents live! But they took off for holidays to visit me in Sydney about 3 hours ago. If the song does not turn up, they can check with CPH when they return, although I would still be skeptical of success with CPH because the whole trend in music nowadays is together modern stuff which sells. But still, no harm in trying....thanks for the tip.....
