Would members be able to throw some light on any "uncomplicated" and simple software which is available that enables conversions of music from cassettes into digital form ? thanks Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water. - Albert Schweitzer Without music life would be a mistake - Friedrich Nietzsche Where words fail, music speaks - Hans Christian Anderson Music is spiritual. Bhavita..I found mp3mymp3recorder a very simple software to use. it is free too.. just set the input to 'line in' and you can record the song on to the system. Anything that plays on the system can be recorded that way...
Here is the link... http://www.mp3mymp3.com/ This post has been edited by simplefable: Nov 26 2009, 02:29 PM After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

Bhavita..no problem. On the left downside corner, you will find two buttons..Device and Input. you select the hardware / input from it. then when you play the song on tape recorder, the song will start playing on mp3mymp3 too...just press the button record ! not complicated, just try it .
the helpfile is here..a detailed way to do it. i just tried it trial and error. hope this will be useful. http://www.mp3mymp3.com/faq.htm This post has been edited by simplefable: Nov 26 2009, 11:21 PM After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

I still remember the first song i recorded with this player...bought a long wire and connected my sony player in the drawing room to the system in bed room..it was a mini-jamboree.. You will get the hang of it in no time..am sure. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.

You can use goldwave also. Just make a new file and then record. Don't forget to increase the time to record to infinite. Default is 1 minute.

Thanks a million SF. It seems that Vistas on my notebook is the culprit. The device button is just not coming up.
Also apparently, apart from realtek under recording devices I need to have the "line-in" source also enabled which again is not there (This - the IT guys at my office told me) Just when I thought the dream of converting all my treasures of music from cassettes was coming true I guess some more 'R and D" continues from my end till i succeed. Hi HB
I did try goldwave But only noise / static kept geting recorded. ( I had downloaded goldwave earlier to record one of Geetaji's program from Worldspace) but did not use it there on. For copying audio from cassettes, I will follow the steps you have given and check out if this helps Thank You You can use goldwave also. Just make a new file and then record. Don't forget to increase the time to record to infinite. Default is 1 minute. SF, HB....Apparently I may also need to install a windows audio driver. The process has got a little more lengthier than expected.
But no, have not given up hope, SF ;-) However, I couldnt wait till this software issue got sorted out, and to cut a long story short, i picked up a small Phillips Player which enables me to copy from cassettes through a USB port. This has helped me kickstart my "project" of converting a lot of my age old music into digital form This post has been edited by Bhavita: Nov 29 2009, 12:35 AM Joy, sorrow, tears, lamentation, laughter — to all these music gives voice, but in such a way that we are transported from the world of unrest to a world of peace, and see reality in a new way, as if we were sitting by a mountain lake and contemplating hills and woods and clouds in the tranquil and fathomless water. - Albert Schweitzer Without music life would be a mistake - Friedrich Nietzsche Where words fail, music speaks - Hans Christian Anderson Music is spiritual.
