Shaan back to rock By Viral Bhayani They say, when there is music within your heart, it has to be heard. So was the case with Shantanu Mukherjee, a.k.a. Shaan, who tried dabbling with other vocations before coming back to what he loved and did best - singing. Getting to where he stands now was of course, no easy task. That probably explains his easy, unassuming disposition. Shaan definitely has a better voice and more to say than the average Indipop star. Shaan, born as Shantanu Mukherjee is the son of Manas Mukherjee, music director for films like "Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Aata Hai" and "Shayad". Shaan's musical career took off when he began singing ad jingles. But it was only in 1995 with Q Funk, Oorja that he began to be recognized. In the following year, Shaan teamed up with his sister Sagarika and released "Naujawan". With the success of this album they were established as a hit bro-sis duo in the indi-pop scenario. His next release was a solo album titled "Loveology". What really kick started his career was the album Tanha Dil, which had songs that made one think. The album stayed on MTV charts for a record number of weeks and also bagged the MTV Asia award in the 'Favorite Indian Artiste - Pop Category' in 2002. It was a blend of soft melodious tunes with some peppy dance numbers, which had eight songs all written by Shaan himself. The album finally established him as a serious singer of considerable worth. With the super successful Tanha Dil followed by Bhool Ja, a plethora of film hits and the Sa Re Ga Ma Pa show on Zee TV, Shaan is a household name today. His fans include people ranging from the age of 6 to 60. He is a darling of all be it young girls or their mums. To take Shaan to the next level, Virgin have got him 3 international collaborations: Mel C of Spice Girls The hottest star of the Middle East - Samira Said. Blue-The No.1 European boy band. Songs like Aksar and Chand Akela are very mellow while Tum Jo Mile and other songs are pretty midtempo - just the sort that Shaan specializes in. The collaboration between Shaan & Blue titled "One Love" will be showcased in a forthcoming Hindi film titled Rakth. There will be video featuring Blue, Shaan & guest artists of the film. Suniel Shetty, the producer & Mahesh Manjrekar, the director of the film are most excited about the song in the film. Shaan has penned his own lyrics and has composed the songs himself. The kind of songs done is such that they deliberately stand out from the film playback that he is oft doing these days. ------------------------ Yahoo!
