SF

You have to see American Beauty this weekend! You've witnessed my ignorance of contemporary faces re: Thora Birch, but really American Beauty is unmissable.

The actor (nice pic by the way) is Anthony Quayle, a familiar face from the 60s. I remember him from Lawrence of Arabia and Guns of Navarone....

He hated being called Raoul Walsh's "beautiful puppet" as much as he hated the expression common in 1941-42 "in like Flynn". His autogiography was appropriately titled My Wicked, Wicked Ways....

I'll give you three hints smile.gif

1- She is of Hellenic ethnicity.
2- She had a brief affair with Brando as she admitted later in life. They remained friends afterwards...
3- She has played the role of the most evil woman in Islamic history.

Ah...Greek ofc... no definitely not Hispanic

Irene Papas...with the help of google biggrin.gif. In my defense: I have not seen Zorba the Greek or Anne of the Thousand Days or Z or Electra. But I have seen Guns of Navarone. ph34r.gif a long time ago.

And rather late in the day, Aditya and SF, you are right, it is Thora Birch. Has anyone here seen Ghost World? If you have not, I would recommend it.

Madhavi

Yes its Irene Papas. If you haven't seen The Message (she played the cruel Hinda) or Zorba the Greek, its understandable your not recognising her. Zorba is an excellent Anthony Quinn film by the way. I liked it so much, I bought the book, but have yet to read it.

Checking IMDB, Ghost World looks really good. Surprisingly I hadn't seen or heard of it before...

Not an easily recognisable face I confess, she was a prominent star of the 30s-40s working with many top leading men. She was the strongest contender for the Scarlett O'Hara role until Vivien Leigh came on the scene. Married 4 times, husband #2 is an iconic name and #4 was a great anti-war writer.

O a very recognisable face for Chaplin fans. That's Paulette Godard, the waif in Modern Times...and she also acted in The Great Dictator. She was quite stunning in Modern Times... the way the camera dwelt on her in the movie, you could feel Chaplin's fascination with her...

Madhavi..the clues are a give away.. smile.gif

Paulette Goddard is the one.
when ever i go to the local video shop, my hands always linger on Zorba the Greek...i know it is a Anthony Quinn film..all the way. I like him too.but i always come out without taking it. ofcourse, with knowledge that none will pick it up..come Armageddon.. laugh.gif Should have recognized Irene ...Guns of Navarone...but it has been a long time.
